With my recently acquired 911T, a 1969, Porsche cut costs to the bone and refused to install a decent temperature and oil pressure gauge. So now I have 2 questions:
1) What is normal, hot, and too damn hot (using the BA terminology) - it just has a red line a long way around the dial. I haven't got it over about 5 mm from the left hand mark yet. 2) If I want to upgrade to the combo gauge (also the fuel/oil level combo), is it prewired? Will it be so difficult to wire as to make it a job not worth doing if the wires etc are not already there? Thanks Cam ------------------ Cameron Baudinet 1975 911S |

Hi Cam
My T had the same stock gauge and it is a pain to get a meaningful reading from it. Firstly, the reading your getting, as described, is about where my gauge would sit when the engine was warm. I can only speculate that the other end of the spectrum is calibrated to the melting point of magnesium. Secondly I recently completed the gauge upgrade, with the help of other board members. I managed to get my hands on an ‘S’ numeric temp and numeric pressure gauge. The sending units screw straight into the existing points for the oil pressure light switch and temp sender. Just use the same wiring – very easy. Whilst fishing around in the wiring I noticed I had the oil level sensor wire in the loom going back into the engine bay, it just terminates at the plugs at the rear of the engine. Your car is probably similarly wired. Regards, ------------------ Paul Modified 1969 911T 2.4 1999 Audi A4 V6 [This message has been edited by Paul W (edited 08-13-2001).] |
