My clock suddenly quit yesterday and hoping it was just a fuse I set off to find dirty culprit. Can't find one that says "clock". Am I blind or is there something I don't know?
The bad news is I didn't see any fuses blown so thats probably not it. Any hints? Thanks once again guys!

Mine quit too a couple months ago, I tested the line and the ground and found both were fine! Pulled tha damn clock and dismantled it hoping to repair it...instead broke it. So now I have a nice black face filling up the space in the dash (used bezel and piece of black plastic) until I either get another clock or upgrade engine to turbo and fill the space with a boost guage.

North Hollywood Speedometer will put a new quartz movement in your clocks. I believe the price is $165. Better than new. The original ones break all the time. Good Luck.

Steve, I've had good luck repairing clocks, most of the time it's a loose wire that's lost it's solder joint probably from vibration.
Just look for the wire that's not connected and re-solder. I've fixed a bunch of them that way. You can get access to the insides without removing the bezel. It's worth a try. The quartz movements are nice but you might be able to get the clock working for no expense

You can replace the engine in your clock easily. Buy the other vdo clock type (much smaller) for around 60 bucks. Take it apart and remove the motor.
Then remove the motor in your 911 clock and replace them. You use the face on the 911 one, and voila, you have a new working clock. This is what I did. It took around 2 hours, plus you get a second hand. You'll use the face of the 911 clock as well as the hands (which fit perfectly). There is some soldering required as the grounds don't work exactly the same, but it's a very straightforward and fun project for one evening.

There are a couple tech articles that cover VDO clock repair. I had the same problem with mine and I just took it apart and cleaned with electrical cleaner and it works fine now.
The articles are in the Tech Article section here on Pelican. http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/mult_vdo_clock_repair/mult_vdo_clock_repair.htm http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/mult_vdo_clock_repair/mult_vdo_clock_repair2.htm -Dan |
