Phoenix Run II

Thought I would take a poll as to the best available date. We can go with the date the most people can show. Pavillions is noce but its to dang hot to sit around for a few hours. ( My opinion )

I suggest a 10:30 am leave time from Waffle house on I17 and Bell Road, head north to Sedona, have lunch at the hideaway, then the nice way home.
Jerome, Cottonwood, Prescott...

Joeaksa 06-11-2002 04:16 PM

RJ,

Voted for the 28/29th (wanted the last one but thought I would give Lee a break!) as I really do not like fighting the Sunday "lets all drive home to Phoenix after spending the weekend in the mountains" traffic!

If we do it on a Saturday feel that the traffic would be a lot less... and the cops might be resting up for Sunday!

Joe

RJ Gilliam 06-11-2002 04:18 PM

I 100% agree on the Saturday thing. Do you want to take the lead on this ride and I will belly up for the next?

BlueSkyJaunte 06-11-2002 04:45 PM

I'll be in NC end of June. I vote for 7/13, or later. Saturdays are best, o' course.

PS: I drive slow.

pwd72s 06-11-2002 04:52 PM

Where is Pheonix???

Joeaksa 06-11-2002 05:05 PM

Pwd,

Watch the evening news or Weather (advertisment) channel and where you see the magenta colors in SW part of America... there we be!

Come on down, no rain and nice clear blue skies... 350 days a year! No rain tans for us here... :)

On a serious note, I would vote for almost any Saturday but the longer we wait, the warmer it will be... am going to be out of town this coming weekend, then no plans on any weekend the rest of the summer! Glad to head one of the functions up... as long as I get to control the duct tape!

Since I am a newby to the Phx area would delegate the route and eats to someone who has been here longer if you do not mind...

Joe

JeffW 06-11-2002 05:20 PM

I'd like to get in on one of these but I have some issues to work out with my car before then and will need to bring a case of oil for the trip... I'm good for any of those days on the weekend.

MarkY 06-11-2002 05:22 PM

I'm available every week in June. I'm also available in July, but it will be too damn hot for a day run in July.

ginpunk 06-11-2002 05:55 PM

Didn't Selena get shot at a Waffle house?

RJ Gilliam 06-11-2002 06:00 PM

ginpunk, Yes I believe she did but she had one major problem.

SHE DID NOT OWN A PORSCHE!

RJ Gilliam 06-11-2002 06:04 PM

Joe is it my understanding that July will be to HOT??? Wait it got to 107 in MAY. There should not be that much difference between 108 and 115 lol remember its a dry heat!

I figured a 10:30 leave time would be cool enough, only 95 by then, Then by the time we get back at 4-5 it should have cooled down to 105-110

NEWS FLASH!!!!!!

The wife just informed me the mother in law will be coming on the 28th. SO I AM UP FOR THE 28..

***ops sorry dear, yes dear, I will dear, yes I can hit this edit button right here.. no I was not serious....

LeeH 06-11-2002 07:43 PM

OK... who voted for the last one???

I'm not going to be able to do a long, spirited drive with my daughter along so the last weekend in June is out for me. Tammy will know her July schedule in a week or so. I'll have to withhold my vote until then.

DonDavis 06-11-2002 10:58 PM

I called McDonald's today and left a message for the parking coordinator telling them that www.pelicanparts.com members wanted parking for Sat June 29 for about 15-20 cars. I know, high estimate but if the Tucson and Yuma folks represent.... besides, remember the Viper pit we were stompin' around in? I wonder how many spots they requested? We had 9 or 10 rotate through last time so when we get a date lets do our best to make it. I'll keep you all in the loop when I hear back from them.

I voted for 7-13 but only about 60% sure if I can make it. How was the temperature on the drive Saturday?

Siena911 06-11-2002 11:29 PM

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO jealous, I saw the pics from Phoenix run 1 and now I want to be there too. Those pics remind me of the weather in South Africa. siiiiiiggghh,

My sister lives in Phoenix and I think I will make a plan to visit sometime (hopefully there will be another run and a chance to meet some pelicanites)SmileWavy

Anyway guys, have a good run whenever it is, please post pics of those gloriously sunny days and pcars ofcourse but most of all, run safe!!

Cheers Jakes
p.s. did I already say I am JEALOUS...;)

Joeaksa 06-12-2002 04:46 AM

Don,

The temps were not a factor at all. It was pleasant and remember that I just moved here four months ago so am not really used to it yet.

Jakes,

Let us know when you are coming to visit and we will have to get together. Send your sister to our meeting at the Pavillions and we will get some pictures for her to send you as well! SA is a very beautiful place but Arizona is a bit more calm right now if you know what I mean. Have a good friend from the area who just moved his entire family out so that they have a future again... he is living in Switzerland now.

Joe

JeffW 06-16-2002 11:23 PM

Did we get a date yet?

Joeaksa 06-17-2002 04:43 AM

I will take the plunge... How about doing it the 13th of July???

Who cannot go on the 13th?

Joe

RJ Gilliam 06-17-2002 04:46 AM

I think the 13th is the date, just waiting for 2 more people's vote.

LeeH 06-17-2002 06:41 AM

It's very unlikely that Tammy will have weekends off next month. Set the date and I'll see what arrangements I can make.

DonDavis 06-17-2002 06:42 AM

OK
I called McDonalds and have not heard back yet. I'll try again today and will request July 13.

I am pretty sure that I am going to Ontario Ca for the week of June 24th. Leave Sunday and back on Friday afternoon. I am going to contact Al Reed Polishing today and see if he can do my wheels while I'm there and not have to deal with shipping. If anyone needs something taken to the LA area or back from there let me know.

RJ Gilliam 06-17-2002 07:56 AM

Do you people want to do a drive up to Sedona, or do the Pavillions thing? I would prefer a drive up to where the temp is not 115

Sup to all of you

Joeaksa 06-20-2002 06:25 AM

Anything new on this idea?

Do we need a poll of Sedona vs the Pavillions?

Need some input from everyone here!

Joe

RJ Gilliam 06-20-2002 06:35 AM

UP

BlueSkyJaunte 06-20-2002 09:15 AM

I'd vote for Sedona, but isn't 89A closed now due to fire hazards?

LeeH 06-20-2002 01:57 PM

As expected, my wife is working weekends next month. That means the long drive is out for me and Pavillions will be a maybe.

Hey Joe... when are you guys getting that RJ?

MarkY 06-20-2002 02:00 PM

I'm going to have to pass on a run to Sedona. It's just too blasted hot in July.

BlueSkyJaunte 06-20-2002 03:55 PM

Quote:

...Says the guy with REAL A/C.

RJ Gilliam 06-20-2002 04:02 PM

Too Hot??? Wait let me check the temp outside....

hmmm 112 today. Yeah I guess your right in JULY it will be TOO hot.

Lets do this, we can refire up the post just after the 4th of July weekend and we will see what develops from there.

I am sure we will get a cold front moving into the area around July 10th and the temp should drop to 110!

JeffW 06-20-2002 05:19 PM

Drive south, It gets cooler down here. It's only 107 in Tucson and probably under 100 in Sierra Vista.

RJ Gilliam 06-20-2002 06:40 PM

Jeff, is there a nice twisty turny road down your way?

JeffW 06-20-2002 07:00 PM

Now that you mention it there is. If you take 83 to sonoita (sp?) it gets really twisty and up and down. It gets kinda rough on a N/A car but a turbo would eat it up...

Joeaksa 06-20-2002 08:29 PM

Thats no fair! RJ already is out front even at low altitudes!

DonDavis 06-20-2002 09:37 PM

Hey Guys,

Been really busy this week.

Haven't heard back from McDonalds yet. I'll check with them tomorrow. Sounds like most folks want to do a drive of some sort but I'll still check with McD's for reservation info.

I go to California on Sunday for the week and I spoke with Al Reed and he said no problem getting my wheels done in that timeframe. Hey RJ, Thanks for the props on my car :) !! I still want to get them done though. Can anyone recommend a good tire place for dismounting/mounting tires? Also, found 2 sets of seats but the jury is still out on them.

I did hear there's a great road down Tucson way. The PCA drove it a couple of months ago. The info is no longer on their site but I think it went from Sierra Vista back to Tucson and twistys were mentioned.

Another group drive sounds great and I want to go but my lack of a/c will ensure that I go solo.

Talk to you soon.

JeffW 06-20-2002 11:36 PM

ya.. highway 83 is pretty good...goes into sonoita then from there a long straight way ( won't tell you what I've done on that) to sierra vista. Gret drive for a sports car. Only one problem, my car runs like crap right now so I don't know if I'll be able to make it.

DonDavis 06-22-2002 07:21 AM

I tried to reach the person for reservations again yesterday with no luck. The person I did speak with suggested that I keep trying and/or go to the event and look up 'Heather' at the dj booth. I left another voice mail for her. Do we want to try and do this on the 13th? Or plan a drive?
