I downloaded a newer version of PowerDVD and it has a Capture function. However, the aspect ratio is messed up on this too!?
Anyway, here's a few shots after some resizing: ![]() ![]() ![]() And since the Chad McQueen car is obviously an imposter, where's the real LeMans car????? Last edited by cegerer; 06-30-2004 at 08:00 AM.. |

I don't think that Chad's car is an "imposter", it was his Dad's personal car. The "hero car", (film term for car in the shot), was probably one of the many supplied by Porsche AG for the film. Where it wound up is who knows?
![]() Didn't someone earlier in this thread say that an Rgruppe member got it? ![]()

Terminology and feelings aside...the car that Chad McQeen has shown and the car in the opening scenes of the movie are NOT the same car. I feel vindicated.

As Jack mentioned earlier, in every feature film, whenever you see a car driven by the principal actor, there are at least two and usually three identical cars used. Car #1 would be used for the exterior driving shots. You'd use car #2 for that car inteior shot thru the windshield with the camera mounted in place of the passenger seat, the poor camera operator stuffed in the rear area to run the camera. That same car would be used for any drivers side shots of McQueen driving with the camera mounted right outside the drivers side door. Odds are there would have been a 3rd car on stand-by in case of any mechanical failures for #1 or #2. Since the film was both a critical and box office failure, I'm sure the studio sold those cars off as quickly as possible to recoup every penny they could. So that leaves the Teamster Transportation Captain on the shoot who could tell us for sure just how many cars were used. And some retired studio accountant/bean counter who sold the cars.
(The first feature film I worked on was PRETTY WOMAN. We had four identical Lotus Esprits at any given time with a host of Lotus Reps nervously watching our Transpo' guys manhandle their cars. Plus we had a deal with Ford who had just started importing their short-lived Italian-made SUV. I think it was called Foza or something. We used four or five of those in the polo sequence but most of that footage ended up on the cutting room floor.)

I guess it's possible that 2 or 3 cars were used in the filming (although there's no mention of that in "French Kiss'). But Chad's car would not be one of those in any case since it is a different year car. As Denis pointed out, it may have been his Dad's personal car at one time, but I think it is generally portrayed as the "LeMans" car. -- Curt
