Question Newbie jackpad question

I recently purchased a jack pad from Pelican and was wondering how far into the tube the stem of the pad is supposed to go? The pad is easily 5-6 inches long, but it only seems to go into the tube about 2 inches? Can the car be safely supported like this?

MIne goes all the way in. I actually have to make sure it isn't too close to the rocker. I would suspect you have some crud in the jack tube on your car.

I also bought one from Pelican and mine easily slides all the way in. Check for obstructions; lifting the car with only 2" in the tube is begging for trouble, IMHO.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Don't know if this makes much difference, but the car is a '88 930 slantnose with the extended rocker panels (the rocker itself looks kind of like a step). I looked at the tube and it looks like there's two sections with the outer section welded to the inner section which attaches to the body. The outer section fits over the inner tube so to extend the tube to be flush with the face of rockers. The stem of the jack pad appears to be hitting the inner tube...
