Fresh Air Upgrade for SC

I have recently removed my A/C and thoguht I would utilize my dash vent for fresh air. I've always struggled with the lack of ventilation when the windows and sunroof are closed so anything to improve would have been good. My solution was to split the hose with a 'y' connector that joings the fresh air blower with the LHS vents. The end result (as expected) is that I do get some airflow but not much.

On some days I'd like to keep the roof and windows closed so it's a bit more quiet in the cabin so I need to find a better solution that what I have.

I am hoping that someone has done somerthing that works really well and can share the idea. I've seen the clock replacement vent but I dont want to delete the clock. I've also heard suggestions that you can use the fan from the A/C but this is no longer an option as I've completely removed the A/C system and modified the footwell where the fan was.

In particular I'm wondering if anyone has installed an in-line fan that boosts the flow out of the dash vent. Maybe there is another idea?

As everyone likes pics here is my current setup.

Your picture had me thinking for a while. first time I've looked at the smugglers box on a RHD!

I just removed my A/C system 3 weeks ago and have been mulling over what to do for additional fresh air as well.

I kept the Behr fan unit and box, blocked off the floor intake and have been considering putting the behr unit housing and fan back in place wired with a relay and a simple on/off switch in the dash using only outside air to supply it.

My only concern is if the outside air intake will have enough volume of flow to keep up with the fan. Probably not a problem though, it doesn't have to pull air over the evaporator any more.

I like the idea of in line blowers though. Perhaps a marine type similar to what others here have used to replace their footwell blowers might work. Inexpensive and readily available.

I connected the fan to the demister vents using the old piping it just fits.
I've been trying to sort something for the old a/c vents but with the demister only on “vent” not fan you can still feel it on your face at 100k's.
And my feet don't get that hot haha.
I've seen some race cars use 12 volt hair dryers so could be a project in winter time, not that it gets that cold.

Hello, I am also in Melbourne (Mornington Peninsula) and was wondering who did your restoration? I am also interested in the "air-flow" issue as my heating system has been molested.

Here is my solution,
The hose is a 2.5 diameter vacuum hose, it connects to the hole that the front AC condenser fan got air from. I put a hole in the side of the evap. box. And made an aluminum smugglers box cover, with a hole. Saving my original one.
I removed the evaporator also.

Pelican Parts Technical BBS - Search Results

Harder to find parts for a coupe from most threads I've read. Targas are easy.

I've seen some of the vent window threads. I'm trying to get airflow with the windows closed so it's a little more quiet in the cabin. I dont mind the windows open when I'm on my own in the car, but with a passenger you almost need to shout to have a conversation!

Heat is good, it's only fresh air that I am chasing.

I think I'll try an inline fan to see if the airflow is good, then figure out a way to neatly install it, ideally behind the blower cover. As a RHD I dont have a smugglers box to utilize.

Cheers,
Darren

Hi jugwahn. Always good to hear from a local.. Engine and trans was done by Auto Coupe in Eltham and exterior was painted by Frank at F1 in Bulleen. I did everything else - very slowly mind you. Along the way I did outsource things such as zinc plating, powder coating and carpet binding. Most of the info I used to complete the project was from Pelican Parts and the Parts Catalogue. Whenever I was referring to the parts diagrams I was telling my son it's kind of like a Lego Kit for Dad's

If you want some help with a restoration PM me your number and I'll give you a call.

Darren
