How do I get this off?

My PO installed a sat radio system in my 87 targa. I now have the thing in the photos stuck at the top of my rear window (second photo is from interior). It looks like somebody tried to get it off and broke one corner. Anybody know how this is attached? I've tapped it to try to unscrew it, but it won't budge. There are no remains of glue where the one piece was broken. Did they drill a hole in the window to install this?

My suggestion would be to take the inside cover off that's held on by the two screws in the picture. That should give you access to the coaxial connector for the old antennae. The connector may be held in place by a nut around it's outside threaded portion. Hopefully they didn't drill your window, but I've got a nasty feeling that they may have. Good luck.

Thanks. I should have mentioned that removing the two little screws on the inside doesn't, as far as I can tell, loosen up anything. They come out easily, but leave that whole little unit stuck solid as a rock.

it's more than likely an old cellular phone antenna... I installed countless of those back in the day. Those unfortunately were the horrible antennas I never liked using. The foil Ts to the side were to create a ground plane. The only thing holding them there would have been dual sided tape and if the intaller felt like really securing it then there would have been four dabs of silicone at the corners.

Heat, a razor blade to get things started and then a spudge tool and patience... lots of patience.

EDIT: taking a better look at your pics... there doesn't seem to be any silicone in the corners... heat it and the dual sided tape will loosen up and you may even be able to twist it off or pry it off slowly with your hands.

Thanks McLaren-TAG. Now that I think about it, it makes sense this would be an old cellular unit. If heat, a razor blade, some pr(a)ying and patience gets this off, I'll be a happy camper. Especially if they did not drill the window.

Thanks also Timmy2 for the windshield epoxy idea, if it is drilled. Is that stuff clear?

Check with your local Safety Auto Glass, they have a unique polymer (clear/transparent) they use to fix cracked windshields. It takes minutes only to cure and they buffed it to perfection. Just my two-cents.

Thanks to all. The thing came off fairly easily and thankfully the window had not been drilled. It was more work getting all the adhesive off than the plate. Ken
