2.2 tight after rebuild
I have an original 914/6 mag cased 2.2 motor with T P&C's and E spec cams that was professionally rebuilt in January of 2007 by a very reputable engine builder. The motor has sat in my garage on a stand until it was installed into my 914/6 conversion car a few months ago. It was manually turned over periodically from 2007 til recently. The car is now trying to be fired up and we have found that it turns freely without the plugs in and is much tighter obviously with the plugs in...A normal 914/4 starter is having a tough time getting it to fire so we have ordered a high torque starter and are hoping that the motor will fire and loosen up...Not looking for advice...just sharing my concern as I am hoping for the best outcome...Let me know if you have been in the same circumstance...

did you open up anything before trying to start after 5 years on the shelf? (valve covers?)
did you crank with no plugs till the oil pressure came up - THEN crank with plugs just thoughts

After I rebuilt mine, it was tight enough that the Motronic had a hard time catching the engine from dying out when I pushed in the clutch for a few days. Nearly every stoplight, the engine died out on me.
It was tight but very smooth.
