Double sided tape for 3rd brake light?

I installed a Hella 3rd brake light when I put in a new headliner. The double sided tape that came with it didn't hold so I bought some 3M brand tape. It didn't hold either. What am I missing here? Is there any particular brand that is better than the others? This shouldn't be this hard.

If you're going to use tape, look for "trim tape". It's used to hold trim on cars. It will hold your light.

I don't think glue will work. The surface of the outer lips is channeled a little bit where the tape is supposed to go so I'm not sure there is enough surface area to come in contact with the glass. Have you done it or was it just an idea? If you've done it then I'll give it a go.

Ah. I'll go to my FLAPS and look for it. Thanks!

An auto body supply house will have it if you can't find it at the parts store.

I have had the best luck with 3M VHB tapes. This double sided tape is the best! For best results you do have to clean the surfaces with alcohol before you use the tape.

My mirror is mounted using the iphone 3m tape they use to mount the digitizer to the glass.
Hasn't moved in a year.
About 50 cents or less on ebay. Throw away the outer part that is cut to fit the phone and trim the remainder to the right size.

Edit: Just looked at the piece I cut off, the label says it's 3m 200MP tape

Superglue isn't a panacea.

+1 on the 3M VHB. If it doesn't pull the paint off then the surface isn't clean enough.
