Back in the German saddle
Hi Pelican's,
Brief intro about myself, my name is Nathan Christian ( No affiliation with the religion, just mere coincidence). I enjoy being on the side of the road fixing broken oil pans, waiting for tow trucks and most recently, being a graduate of a University and becoming a part of the work force...Yay. But seriously, I am one that enjoys a good night in the garage, snowboarding, skydiving, and the usual 20-something stuff. I have had my fair share of relationships, none lasting longer than a few months, so I guess you could say automobiles have been my one consistent interest. It all started with Volkswagens, had a 91 Jetta ( T-boned by a woman named Con-getta) If you know your latin, which I do, I had to take 3 years of it in high school...Con means 'against'. You get the rest. Fast forward, I pick up an 87 GTI, ripped it apart, annoyed my parents because I took over their garage, put a new engine in, wheels, suspension, brakes, blah blah and sold...later to regret. During that time I also had a 95 GTI, vr6 swap, 5 lug conversion, leather interior and all the euro bits, but that was then stolen and flipped. ![]() After those few cars, I picked up a 2003 GTI, 20th Anniversary, fun car, broke a fair share of oil pans, subframe and cv boots from being too low. Cool car, but then sold. Fast forward to now, I drive a 2003 Lexus LS430, even lower than the previous car, wide wheels, aggressive stretch and you will find me on the right lane going 50mph trying not to break anything. Couple pics of the previous ones. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So now, here we are, 8:09 a.m., and I should be doing work, but instead here I am typing my intro for Pelican Parts. I picked up a 1972 911T. She is an import from Germany in 1983 and I am awaiting her new title from VA. The bits that I know currently are that she has has a 930 widebody (steel) installed, whale tail, resprayed GP white, 3.2 swap, suspension and brakes are all off of a 1987 911. The interior is pretty stock, except for the recaros and momo wheel. I can't find out info about the seats yet, but they remind me of the Trophys in my GTI and Jetta, except they are all leather. The car runs amazing, shes very quick, and I have stacks of maintenance work from the past 20 or so-odd years. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I look forward to posting my progress, currently I have torn the trunk apart and interior to clean and find what might need replacing. So far, I have done Rs America door cards, misc trim pieces, black window cranks, clean carpet, seats, floor pans, pedal cluster, install new door stays with reinforcement kit. Now I am installing LED's in gauges and cleaning wiring behind dash and heater box. Next will be a corner balance, shifter alignment, check tire balance then finally get to open her up on the road. Cheers! Nate |

Welcome to the madness.
One thing you are unlikely to ever have to fix is a broken oil pan on the 911! Enjoy the car, it is a great addiction.

looks like she was well loved by the previous owner, and looks great right now as she is. Welcome, and enjoy the ride.

![]() I have formulated two possible requests, which will be better served in the classifieds, but why not here as a quick question. My rear windows are pop outs and I want to go to fixed quarters and my handles are chrome and I would like to black. Anyone interested in a trade? Chrome on handles is perfect, no pitting or cracking. Glass is perfect, seals could use a replacement and trim needs powdering/painting/anodizing. Nate |

"I picked up a 1972 911T."
Yes, very nice. Are you sure it's a '72? I don't see an oil door. Maybe, they shaved it (hard to believe) and you can get it back??? They are super cool on the RS/RSR builds if you can. I imagine they must have changed the oil tank too.

Nathan - congrats on your purchase and yes, its a very cool car - most updated 911's are made of fiberglass and some finishes don't include "quality" as a description. It looks in really good condition despite the fact that its almost turning 41! Did you get a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) prior to your purchase? The seats appear to be older Recaros, which are a popular swap with these cars.
Based on your prior machines, it seems you like to customize your rides. Depending on what your budget is, try to enjoy the car as much as possible while tending to the mechanics on it. The sky is the limit when it comes to modifying these, so good luck with it and keep us posted. |

One think "stay away from the BLING" they just don't need it as understatement is cool. Steve. |

HA! I knew I would scare some people with previous projects. Do not fret, but the car will be on the more aggressive side.
I will post pics this weekend, but ripped interior apart to clean everything, tidy up the wiring and find what bits need sorting. So far its been lots of oem replacements, which I think are the most enjoyable. I will say, eTarga's LED's made a big difference so much brighter and cleaner looking at night. I am quite grateful so far with PP, I have found answers to pretty much every little question I have had. ![]() More updates to come, work has had me tied down and been getting the lexus up for sale and out of the house. |

It looks like the rear wheels need to be spaced outward quite a bit . . .

I would leave the venting 1/4 windows. They really make driving nice without a/c. Great cross-flow. I've actually considered backdating the 1/4 windows on my coupe for that purpose.
I REALLY dig the VR6 conversion on the older GTI. Very, very nice. angela

Welcome.
I'll be second to recommend not updating the quarter windows. I backdated the ones on my SC for the airflow improvement with no a/c. I have found on cold days that they do a great job circulating heat if left open. Additionally, if you want to give me those door pockets, I'll be kind enough to take them off your hands. |
