1990 964 C2 Cab
I have a line on a Cab to buy. almost bought it yesterday but thought id sleep on it a day or two.
Mileage is high. 196,000 km. 1990. Convertible top motor isnt working and needs a new one. (how much are these?) paint is great. Interior is pretty good. Sport seats. Top looks like it is new. or has been replaced. I didn't check AC but it was recharged a few years ago and supposedly works. I test drove it the yesterday, drove well. Car presents well I have not done a PPI with a mechanic but I'm thinking of bringing one along next visit. My 82 Targa had broken head bolts and I didn't know and cost me a little, so I'm really timid buying this with such high kms. I watched the oil pressure as I drove yesterday and everything seemed to be ok Price is $13,500 Is this a fair price- market value given the mileage. Or can I do no wrong at this price. Tires look new. Brakes seemed fine. The shop mechanic deals with 911s and says its a sound car. I'm looking for a tip cab just for work commutes. Rainy days Id drive my 2007 jeep. The owner just traded it in on a 993 targa. Advice?

If all is in order that price is not that bad. Miles are miles, many people on this forum will tell you that they would rather buy a well maintained car with a lot of miles than a pristine example that sat in a garage under a cover for 15 years. What kind of paperwork does the owner have? I am a big fan for the sport seats I think they hold better in the corners. If it drives well then I say go for it. Find out if the roof has been replaced and I would ask about leaks. If he lets you I would even see if you can spray it with a hose to check for roof leaks.
Check the AC. If you are bringing a mechanic I assume he is well versed in 911's. If he checks it out and says go for it I would see no reason not to buy. Many people like to go with the idea that they need 1000 reasons to buy a car but only one not to. For me I take the other side and need 1000 reasons not to buy a car and only 1 to buy it. I avoid stressing about the little things with these cars and make sure its a solid package over all. Regards Dave

I have a 90 coupe. I have used it as a daily driver, but it is not my most reliable car. It is way more complicated (and prone to fail) than my '89 cab.
I think it's a great weekend fun car, but as a daily driver I hope you have a plan b parked beside it.

I have an 89 Cab and had a failure of the electric top motor/transmission, ended up with a broken main bow, that being said I simply disconnected the motor and open/close the top manually. The electric motors for the locking mechanism work fine so I still use that part.
