wheel back spacing

i have a 73 911 that i am currently converting it to a rs styled car. my problem is that no one that i talk to knows anything about porsche backspacing and what wheels i can use. i have seen a site that has wheel fitments in offset but this is a little difficult to figure out since i am not using factory style wheels. everyone knows the factory offset but cant tell me backspacing. i have a chance to buy a set of hre wheels very cheap but i would have to put adapters on them. they are 18x9.5 rears and 17x8.5 fronts that originally came off a new bodied corvette. i have no problem with wheel adapters but need to know the correct wheel back spacing to see if they will workwith the spacers i need. the chart i have seen says that i can use a 17x8.5 front with 72mm of offset and a 235/45/17 but in the rear the chart only lists 18x10s and says no spacer and 40mm of offset. if anyone has any info on this or can point me in the right dirrection i would gladly thank them....

I would get hold of the wheels. Check the bolt holes are the right spacing. And provided this is ok, I would actually measure the thickness of the spacers required. Also take into consideration rolled fender lips etc.

I agree. Get the wheels, and then set aside a bunch of time for measuring for spacers, machining down spring plate bolts, increasing negative camber, grinding fenders and re-routing oil lines.

It isn't simple.

One other option is to get custom Fuchs made. But that won't save you any of the fitting mods (except for not needing spacers), and it ain't cheap.

I ran 9" rear and 7" (16") on my Carrera RS before upgrading to a RSR. If I recall correctly the back spacing for the rear was 5" and the front 4" which worked well with a minimum of spacers required.
