question: 2000cc 911S/ 911E distributors, no Ignitor available due to?

On 1969, 911S/E 2000cc engines, I have seen no Ignitor available in part catalogs, to replace points particular to this OEM distributor. (Maybe I'm not looking hard enough?) Does this have something to due with RPMs appropriate to this particular OEM distributor?, or some other technical reason? ( Are regular points in this instance superior anyway?)

Thanks in advance.

May I assume the "ignitor" you're referring to is a points-to-breakerless conversion kit?

If so, the Crane XR700 ignition unit fits (optical sensor). I have one on my '69 with a '67 S distributor (BTW, the only difference is the advance curve). The Pertronix unit should also fit but I have no direct experience with it.

Crane also sells the optical sensor separately in case you want to trigger another ignition box (Crane Hi6, MSD6A/6AL, etc.).

I forgot; the E and S engines use a Bosch CD ignition. Not sure if the aforementioned conversion kits are compatible. Sorry for the outburst.

Others with more technical knowledge may chime in but I don't think the Pertronix will work with the CDI. The Pertronix unit has 2V residual voltage. This means that instead of seeing system voltage then 0 voltage as the points open and close, the CDI and the RPM sensor see system voltage and 2V. I'm told this confuses the CDI and the speed switch. I installed the Crane optical trigger system after confirming with Crane that their system has no residual voltage. After a couple of hundred miles, no problems.
