Post Late seats in an early 911

I have a 72 911T with the normal factory seats and was wondering if the late type seats (manual from a 80's 911) will fit with few problems. Thanks for the help.

No. The 74+ seats have narrower mounting rails. You can purchase adapters for about $75 per seat or you can fabricate them yourself. Otherwise they fit fine.

I've seen it done, so the swap shouldn't be too difficult. My only question would be why? Your standard seats too far gone to keep? Just my opinion, but I think the early 911 models look weird with those high backs. Like the later models would look weird with the low backs. Dunno why I feel this way, just kind of visual flow thing..

Later style seats will require some adapters to fit the narrower later seat rails to the wider early seat rail spacing. I haven't seen any for sale out there, typically these are home built out of some 2-1/2" x 1/8" steel cut to length and the appropriate holes drilled to match the new seats.
The complicated part may be the seat belt mounting locations. My 72 had the seatbelt mounting nuts attached to the seat frame itself. These may have to be incorporated into the later style seats that you acquire.

Hope it helps.

Regards,
Rick

I have a 1973T with the older seats. They have very little bolstering and often when I turn hard, I slide to one side! I have considered the newer sports seats but I agree with others that it takes away from the character of the car. I had the seats reupholstered which has helped to keep me in front of the wheel! Sitting in those older seats is like being on a big fat lazyboy chair watching the world go by.....Conversion kits are available for the upgrading as most of the major catalog houses if you choose that route. Keep it original.....

If you want something original, but with more support, take a look at this site:
