Wink Carrere chin spoiler install proceedure?

Hello all and thanks for the great tips I recieved on my Head lamp and short shift questions!! The shifting is like a dream come true after the install and adjustment!!

I have installed a rear Carrera tail and have a front chin spoiler and mounting kit to put on. The car is an 85 Carrera that did not have a chin spoiler before. I am not sure exactly where all the hardware in the install kit goes. The 7 "Z" brackets ,4 bolts,11 nyloc nuts, washers, metal ring spacers and 2 white plastic "Dog bone" shaped spacers.
This came with zero directions and I don,t want to mess this up.Plese lend your advice..

The timeing is remarkable. Just yesterday my new chin spoiler and mounting hardware kit arrived!
I'll have to take a closer look at the mounting hardware tonight though. I don't recall any loose bolts (4?) or different sized washers either.

Sorry for the runaround. I should have just copied and pasted it here. Hope this helps.

You may want to do a search for previous posts on the subject. I hear there's a writeup somewhere but after laying out the hardware it became
apparent how it was to attached.

Since I recently installed mine. Here's what I did. Tools. You'll need a 1/4 inch or 5/16 metal drill. You will have to jack the front up to allow your
drill and bit to be able to drill into the bottom lip.

Lay the spoiler in front of your car to set up your pieces. The 7 metal brackets will go on the front since they are strait. The 4 bolts are for the
curved portion. 2 per each side. You will notice that the ends of the spoiler already have bolts integrated into the spoiler. After you drill holes on
the side of the valence near the wheels for those holes. The "dog bone" piece goes on the inside of the wheel well and act as a washer. The bone
is curved to follow the surface of the sheet metal. I believe the thinner side is toward the bottom since the curvature of the metal is greater. The
metal spacers are the same thickness as your spoiler so each location gets one (7 in front, 4 on the curves) Each bolt gets a nut. All your are left
with are washers. Each bolt gets one. The end bolt with the bone get the smaller ones. All the others get both. Hopefully, I can put the stack up in
words. The end bolts with the bone should get the bone, then washer then nut. The 4 on the curves get a bolt, large washer next to the spoiler,
spacer, small washer against the lip then a nut. The 7 in front get a bolt/Z bracket, spacer, small washer against the lip, then a nut. The hard part
is to locate the spoiler for the exact location you will be drilling into the sheet metal. The bolts at the end are a bit trick but it can be done. The top
of the spoiler will be just below the thin rubber right above the valence. I put those on first then attached the center of the spoiler. Bisect the
license plate mounting hole and project down to the center of the valence lip at the bottom. When you drill on the lip make sure its in the center.
You should make a mark with a felt pen using the spoiler as the template. I had to remove the front guard to the A/C condenser by removing the
two bolts at the tow hooks and one center bolt inside the boot. Pretty easy. Also place a z braket against the lip to get a better picture of where
you need to drill. You'll notice that the vertical part of the z bracket will butt up against the lip. This is to prevent the spoiler from moving forward
over time as it will get yanked (hitting curbs and objects) If you drill to close to the front of the valence you will have a problem tightening the nut.
If you drill to close to the edge then you may break thru. After the center bolt, position the rest of the spoiler and drill. Tightening is a bit tricky. But
it can be done. Replace the guard to the AC condenser if you have one. The only thing I did different was i cut the dog bone in half for easier
install or possibly didnt use it at all and just used nuts. Another thing is that I drilled a pilot hole to eliminate walking of the larger drill. Hope this helps You can email me if any questions.

Mully - how'd you get on? is it fitted yet?

i just got hold of a secondhand one (i have rear wing, no front spolier), and could use any advice/tips.

i've got the bag of fittings with limited instructions. the main worry is the dimensions for the holes down the side for the four bolts that are attached to the spoiler. anyone got dimensions???

don't want those holes in the wrong place!!

When I installed mine I did a few things relating to drilling the holes. First, I attached the spoiler to the valance at one location in the center and did not tighten it up all the way. I put masking tape on the fender where the holes would go so I could have a place to mark. Then, I held a small block of wood against the inner part of the wheel well where the vertical edge of the spoiler would go. This assured the edge of the spoiler and the wheel well would be flush. Then I was able to mark the position of the holes. Note that when you have the spoiler held in place to mark the position that the bolts are square to the surface so you get a correct mark. Best of luck.

cheers

thanks to falcon and waynes book i did mine at the weekend

masking tape all round first to mark the position. sides fitted first, holes at 50mm and 105mm, 12mm from edge. then fitted the centre (wasn't necessary to measure to the centre). followed up with the fronts and then the bolts at the sides.

btw-drilled a pilot hole first.

took two careful hours.

looks great
