Immediate help needed:g50 clutch fork rod!!!

Hello brain trust trying to get my 3.2 on the stand today. Took the cap off the clutch fork end and found this: Not a threaded rod as usual but sometype of cap. Tryed to ponch thru center of it (hence the ding in center and sides) but its very solid. Maybe its the upgrade from the needle bearings to another fitting by po.

How do i get this rod out.. Need it now as my crew for lifting it onto the stand is getting beered up and its looking dour ..

Please help!!!

The retainer that is held in place with the 6mm bolt has a hole in the center. The hole holds a cap that covers the 6mm threads in the shaft.
Thats what is suposed to be there.

Thanks .....but how do i get that cap off to get to the 6mm threads ?? Do you pry it off from the side?

Grab it with a pair of duckbill pliers, or pry against the cap,on the outside of the cap, top, bottom, top, bottom, until it comes out.

My cap is bonded to the retainer (bolts to the case). Hope it worked out for you..

andrew i had to punch a hole in the cap and then pry it out ...it turns out that metal cap is actually the bearing housing which holds the needles!. now i must replace it or d the upgrade i guess without the needles.. no problem thanks to all for the help!! frank

You probably found that some genius put in the caps or the whole rod in backwards...

Seeing that you have to replace the bearings anyway...
Get the bronze bushing upgrade. Way better solution. More reliable too.

I agree with Quicksilver.. The rod is a straight forward removal if it was installed correctly.. One would be amazed at factory issues, not always on non OEM install. Glad all worked out..

We just did a G50 a few months ago. Let me know when you are ready to button it back up and I'll come by and show you how it is done. Not a bad job at all.

And for what it's worth, you will want to replace the bearing that you broke anyway.

Ok chris thanks alot will take you up on that.. These nites in the garage are getting colder!! I am trying to get all the parts off and shuttled to the head guys, powder coaters, etc. Have you ever installed an lsd in a g50? I am ordering a guard lsd as suggested by jim zelinskie wha has been hugely helpful in advice on build be in touch see you at great american pub? Frank

The LSD install should really be done by a pro. As far as I know, there is a bit of measuring and shimming involved.
