Purchased my first 911 in September. Has 163000 miles, looks great and I plan Restoring it so it can be my daily driver when I retire in 3 years. It had issues starting when I purchased it. Took it to a mechanic and had the starting issue check out. I replaces the ICU,coil, actuator, gas filter and changed the oil and it starts right up. I have an issue with stalling that I can't figure what the issue is. It will drive normal some days and on other days is will stall when I push in the clutch, as long as I'm moving and let the clutch out it will continue to run. Recently went to the beach for a run, an hour later I was driving home and it stalled at a light. I could not get it started and had to tow it home. Once home and in the garage and the tow driver left it started up! ![]() ![]() Last edited by runsurfer; 11-28-2012 at 09:23 PM.. |

Oh Jeez - now you see the double posting issue. I posted thoughts about a possible Permatune box in the other thread.

Thermal related problem......
Quote:
Every time I find heat related starting problems, one thing always comes to mind: ignition components (electrical). And if you have a Permadoom installed on the car, the likely hood of occurence is magnified. Check you ignition system and fuel pressures. Tony |

Sometimes (at least in my case) it is not that the fuel pump relay is bad (Red Relay), but that it makes poor contact in the socket. The socket where the relay goes in can expand (Each of the pin holes) and make poor contact with the relay.
What I did was to try to close up the contacts at the socket, and also expand the pins at the relay (pins on the relay are split so you can slide a thin blade and open them up a bit). That cured my intermittent fail to start and shutting off while driving. Hope that helps... and yes... this was after I replaced the relay, injectors, coil, fuel pump, cleaned every single fuel line, etc... etc... etc... before figuring out it was a poor contact at the relay... This was on my '83 SC

I do have a Permatune, purchased it used! I guess you get what you pay for. You reference to it as "permadoom" what is a recommendation for replacement?

Test and verify.......
Quote:
runsurfer, Before you do anything, test and verify that the problem you are having is caused by the Permatune CDI. I know a few with Permatune CDI in their cars and don't complain. I prefer the Bosch CDI because there are at least four (4) Bosch CDI's spare units in my storage that would last for a long time for me. MSD is a very popular replacement guys in this forum recommend. The price and performance are outstanding. Tony |

+1, Test before you buy.
