new dizzy cap and rotor - now radio crackles
The Blaupunct radio in my 70 S was just fine until i replaced the cap and rotor (both Bosch - rotor is the cut out type). Now my radio crackles on all channels (FM) and it is not sensitive to rpm (i.e. the crackles are constant no matter what).
Any ideas on what is happening and how to rectify it? thanks!

Eliminating RFI/EMI noise in a radio is often a matter of following a standard 'recipe' ... Radio Shack sells RF chokes (an inductor rated to carry 10-20 Amps) to be installed in line with the power lead, near your radio. Bypass capacitors can also be installed on either side of the RF choke to ground ... .001 microFarad @ 50V (or higher)and 0.05 miF @ 50 Volt (or higher) ceramic disk capacitors should work.

Check all your grounds, especially around the distributor. There is one from the engine wire harness that goes to the engine case (I think that's correct for your year car...)

Are you sure you installed the cap and rotor correctly? How is the car running? Maybe run the engine at night and watch for a light show?

thanks
Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, the car runs fine - even better than before i replaced the worn out rotor! I haven't looked for a light show though - i'll try that tonight (although it is the longest day of the year today!).
Maybe I accidently disconnected a ground wire or soemthing around the distributor. I was also going to replace my old rotor and see what happens. regards, Michael
