Best way to pull injectors
Hey Guys,
I haven't given up yet at getting this thing running. I'm thinking of pulling and checking the injectors this weekend along with a couple other tests and haven't ever done this before. Any suggestions, comments or things to watch for or avoid? Do I pull them all as a bank or can they come out individually? Dan O '84 3.2 Carrera - It use to run pretty good, I remember |

waste of time, you won't see anything, and you could break something, too, because the rails don't come off easy.

so do the plugs still get oiled up, or are you past that? one of the 3 electrical plugs stacked above #3 cylinder sometimes get partially unclipped and the engine won't run. does the fuel pump run when you operate the starter and have you checked for spark?

John,
Here's where I am now. I've blown out the cylinders and have vitually no oil on there. Nothing showing up on the plugs at all. I've triple checked for airleaks. I have spark and the fuel pump works, I jumpered it off the fuse box in front. If I jumper out the air mixture using the B to c sockets the car will start and run well but a very low idle for about 6 to 8 seconds and dies smoothly. If I try to pump the pedal or give it any gas it dies immediately. Yesterday I tried covering the snorkel on the air bax after jumpering off the air mixture and it ran for about a minute or 2 until I lost my position and blocked off too much air. I can recreate that condition but the car still idles really low (400 rpm) and any attempt to give it throttle kills it immediately. I've tried adjusting the speed screw but nothing happens but then I can't keep it running long enough to do anything. Did I possible kill my air mixture meter in the airbox with the oil? Is it possibly not getting enough fuel or too low a pressure ? Any thoughts? Dan O '84 3.2 |

the breather hose would not burp oil into the airbox. it still sounds like a hose is off, around the front of the intake, causing a large intake air leak, evidenced by the fact that if you choke the airflow with your hand, it runs better. check the airbox plug to make sure none of the wire ends have been pulled out of their sockets.

The airbox has the small hose on the bottom backside that goes out through the side wall. It's connected. I've cheched every other hose two and three times, taken them off looked at the quality of the hoses etc. I would agree that it sounds like a huge air leak but I can't find one. Even when I blocked the snokel I stuck my head all around listening and didn't hear anything, not that that means anything. I'm really perplexed and frustrated. I certainly appreciate your input throughout this whole ordeal. Any chance this is fuel related or lack of fuel related? Dan O |

Is it possible that the vacuum lines that go to the fuel pressure regulators are hooked up wrong or plugged? I don't know how they work but maybe JW does.

it has to be something you did when you cleaned out the intake. it ran before all the oil went thru. i've had similar cars that had so much oil in the intake, that they hydro-locked, and the usual pull plugs, crank to blow out the oil, and new plugs always got them running again, however smokey. so keep looking and thinking. i have my best revelations laying in bed.

Guys,
Again thanks for the support and input. I agree it ran fine just before it sucked the oil in. The air meter box did have an oil file on the inside of the door/flap, the rubber boot and the throttle body and down into the intake plenum. Could oil have gotten into the air meter electricals and killed it? If so, would that cause this effect? I'm still not ruling out an air leak but I'll be damned if I can find one. I'm spending tonight going over it again and all day tomorrow too. As for revelations I've had a ton already but not the right one. Dan |

I am no guru but you reminded me of the time that cleaning the engine bay "was" a ritual.
With the engine grease-free, I decided to clean the filter. I notice that the 'tunnel/platic housing' from the filter to the ???? was greasy. So, I sprayed WD-40 and managed to make it look good. After an hour, I decided to park the car inside the garage. The car would crank but would not start. Turned out that I just shorted the air flow meter. $700.00 was the dealer cost. Found one in the junkyard for $350.00. Never cleaned the engine bays since. By the way, this was on a Supra Turbo. Hope you fixed your problem. |
