DAS Sport roll bar - Fitment issue

Hey Guys,

Just got my DAS roll bar delivered today and went for some test fitting. I have to say this bar doesn't fit perfect, fitment is rather poor. Also, once the bar is bolted up and there's a gap about 1 cm between the bar plate and the body, is it suppose to be this way

Also, driver side plate would not go all the way to the rocker, instead there is a fairly large gap compare to passenger side, this is clearly manufacture flaw.
My car is a non-sunroof coupe and I ordered the matching bar.

I may have to return the bar which costs over $200 to ship.

Here are some pictures:

The gap between the bar plate and body.

Passenger side plate to inner rocker.

Driver side plate to rocker.

The bars were probably designed to fit over the full interior, carpets, molded seat sides. Once you stripped all that out, there is a gap.

With the interior, it is still not a perfect fit. Mine has 1/4 aluminum plates bolted to the bottom to take up the gap. Carpet does the rest.

There are spacer plates that bolt up to the bottom of the mounting tabs and i don't reckon those spacers on your first two pictures ...

Mine fit perfectly over the carpeting in my 89 sunroof coupe.

Cheers !

Thanks Mike.

I think because this is a non sunroof version. instead of using a longer bars, they just made the plate a little longer hence the bigger gap

Yes the spacers came with my DAS bar. I too ordered a nsr bar but was sent a sunroof by mistake. I realized this after the first install when there was a large gap between the headliner and the bar. DAS paid for everything to make it right. My interior is rs carpet only. All underneath padding etc removed. The fit is not perfect but pretty good. All four mounts do get pulled in tight with the bolts.

That one bolt holds the mount in place?

Also keep in mind that its hard to prefab a bar/cage since over time cars bend and stretch so no two cars are perfectly identical.

Abby,

Mine came with the spacers supplied although i had to purchase the side mount eyebolts seperately.
The spacers are just 1/4 inch thick plates that mount under the feet.I just went in the garage and verified mine and there is also a gap on the side plates, maybe 1/8 to 3/16 although it is definitely mounted solid.
I have a feeling the previous owner stripped the rear mounting threads on your car and welded those extensions on to the body as i don't think Porsche would issue something like that. You might want to look into it ...

Cheers !

Thanks! I emailed Das and see what they say.

I am still having trouble with driver side inner rocker mount though, the plate wouldn't line up flush with the rocker.

Ryan,
That's the only bolt holding the mount.

Phil,
My car is a row Japanese market car with funky rear seats. That's probably why the mounts are sticking out?

Thanks guys! Went through lots of pictures and all the cars have rear mounts sticking out. I guess it's not a problem with my car.

details of the spacer

The DAS bolt in bar is ideal if you want to keep the carpeting and not drill any mounting holes. The fit is very close with the spacers installed. Any tighter would wear the carpeting.
