Advice/ Opinions for a newbie

Sorry in advance for a fairly common question, but I need a little advice.

For a winter project I wanted to put SSI's and a new muffler on my 82 SC. After searching all of the threads concerning this and reading Wayne's book I was nervous to attempt the SSI conversion due to the stud issue and am leaning towards going with a cat bypass and an M&K 1/1.

Question- Am I going to kick myself for not going all the way with the SSIs and a 2/1? My car has always been garaged, so no/little rust on the bolts, but is the gain (hp and sound) worth it?

The main issue is whether you have to meet emissions or not. The second issue is noise. Cat bypass with sport muffler will be very loud (intolerable for me). SSI's with a sport muffler will probably be louder still. SSI's with a stock muffler are still loud but tolerable with a very nice sound. HP gains are probably small and there is a lot of information here if you search the threads.
Switching to SSI's will also involve changing out 2 of the engine oil lines.

I have a 79 SC and went to a cat bypass and a Dansk OEM sport muffler. A little louder that stock but not so loud as to make the neighborhood hate me.

I just noticed that though my exchangers are in good shape, the right one seems to rock around a small amount. The headers seem solid on the manifold, but the exchanger/case part seems to move around the pipes. Is this o.k., or a sign of internal rust? The left one is solid.

Nothing should move. Keep your heater off until you know what is happening. I have ssi's with a dansk muffler and cat by-pass on a 79. I don't like the dansk sound. Pretty tinny.

Gunter. Nope its a one in, one out Dansk oem sport, and I don't think its tinny at all. The 70mm pipe give its a nice growl. Come spring you can hear it at the XXX.
