Do we have a pelican Xmas charity ?

A group donation is always nice " lets not get crazy here people
But many of us can give a little . Great forum " great bunch of guys
Not always about us and our cars.

Think your turbo is cool ? Help out so someone in need " that's what cool is...
We do it for each other everyday , we can do it for another cause as well.

Happy holidays fellas "

My family are giving our Christmas donation to St Joachims in Cedarhurst, NY for hurricane relief. They are helping people with very good efficiency, no suits to pay! There is lots of disease due to sewage in the floodwater, lots of looting, etc.

The overall need is still huge, I am told this is bigger than Katrina but does not the politically motivated news coverage than Katrina got.

Wow, not sure it's best to get into a "those poor people in LA got more television coverage than those middle class folks on Staten Island" thing... just sayin'

How about the American Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy Relief, The Wounded Warriors Project, American Cancer Society? Any of those are fine organizations that HELP people.

Send a message via ICQ to GaryR
Red Cross COO earns close to $1M per year according to an article I was sent recently, best to look at what percentage of your $1 actually goes to the people needing help..

I know that there are a number of very worthy causes out there that could benefit from the support of this community, and if we are looking for one that is close to the heart of our host, we might consider the Down Syndrome Research and Treatment Foundation (Home - Down Syndrome Research and Treatment Foundation).

Pelican Parts Charity Fundraising event for Down Syndrome...

I'm just sayin....

Brandon, that's a good one also; as a teacher, I've worked with Down's students; an incredible bunch of kids. I'm also thinking the Parkinson's research group that Michael J. Fox started and runs. He does incredible charity work, and unfortunately, my sister-in-law has Parkinson's.

Salvation Army is always at the top as a national charity with very low admin costs.

Charity donations.

Just a pre-donation thought:

The American Red Cross President and CEO Marsha J. Evans salary was $651,957 plus expenses
The United Way President Brian Gallagher receives a $375,000 base salary along with expense and benefits.
UNICEF CEO Caryl M. Stern receives $1,200,000 per year (100k per month) plus all expenses including a ROLLS ROYCE . Less than 5 cents of your donated dollar goes to the cause.
The Salvation Army's Commissioner Todd Bassett receives a salary of only $13,000 per year (plus housing) for managing this $2 billion dollar organization. 96 percent of donated dollars go to the cause.
The American Legion National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!
The Veterans of Foreign Wars National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!
The Disabled American Veterans National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families.
The Military Order of Purple Hearts National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families.
The Vietnam Veterans Association National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families.

+1 The Salvation Army helps tens of thousands every year, and this year is under full assault by the lunatic fringe. They do good work, and have for a long time.

I'd like to toss the "Fisher House Foundation" into the ring for consideration. Think of them as a Ronald McDonald House for Military Hospitals. They build and run B&B-style housing at numerous Military Medical Facilities for the families of wounded fighting men and women to stay in during what may be the most stressful time of their lives. They also collect and distribute donations of airline miles to families who may otherwise not have the funds to visit their servicemen. They're touted as having one of the lowest admin cost to benefits provided ratios in the world of charities. You can read about them here: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=fisher%20house&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&sqi=2&ved=0CCsQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fisherhouse.org%2F&ei=bM_EUNTgF4rniAKlxoHIAg&usg=AFQjCNHgDa4afYkU0hle1Ox4nZD-gWTAHQ

Votes will close on Friday " well start sending cash the week of the 17th .
