to valet or not to valet, that is the question.

i've had my baby now for over a month now, and had oppurtunity to valet her on several occassions. it scares me ****zless. i even remind them that there is only three and half inches clearance on the front valance. please don't pull up to a curb or wheel stop. when they return it, i inspect it thouroghly. not that they are even responsible i suspect. do youse guys valet??

In the Porsche - never, ever.

In the daily driver - only when I have to but I go out of my way to avoid it.

I started a similar thread a while back. The only time I left it with the valet the guy also had an old 911. Kid was working on it while he went to school. He parked it about 15 ft from where I pulled up in a front row spot.

The general consensus is no. Especially a 915 transmission that most valets will not be familiar with. Give them a big tip and ask to park it yourself.

Never. Not with any of my cars. I generally won't go somewhere if valet is required, but if I must I'll take a cab.

Not sure what model 911 you have, but in a book I have by P mechanic Peter Zimmerman where he is describing the quirks of the 915 gearbox, he mentions valets as being responsible for destroying the odd transmission. I don't let anybody drive my car except my mechanic.

I can usually get them to let me park mine right in the front and take the keys ........

Are your certifiably insane? (and there's your answer)

DRACO A5OG 12-10-2012 07:50 PM

Well, If you want a new gear box and pay for it yourself, Yes :-P

Remember the ticket they give you is a disclaimer and your waiver, You can still sue but it will more difficult and remember they just have to show 51% to win, that ticket is 1%. I think you get the point.

Danny_Ocean 12-10-2012 07:56 PM

Especially here in SoFla where all the valets are either ex-cons, soon-to-be cons or third-worlders. I wouldn't let them park any car I owned, even if they paid me. Some get torqued-off when I refuse to turn over the keys to my work van, which I explain contains too many tools & guns for them to be trusted with.

Uhhh, no. Really bad idea, for all the reasons stated above and probably more that haven't yet been.
