Lowest early 911? post pics!

Im sure this is going to cause some interesting comments..

I like low cars, I love what the VW guys do, I love lowriders,I love rat rides etc.

Obviously these kind of cars are built more for looks than performance and that a really slammed street car is going to be a big compromise in terms of performance/drivability but am I the only one that thinks about how good some of our cars would look with this treatment?

heres what I keep dreaming about....

This is do-able but you have to get shortened shocks front and rear, work on axle to body clearance on the chassis out back, tie rod angles, wheel well work up front , amongst other details.... been there, done it- not cheap

otherwise the ride and driving qualities are in the toilet

Well, it's really difficult and expensive to do, but at least the car rides like crap when you're done!

i think the lowered rides look good too, but never my 911. i dropped a small suv i had some years back and while it looked good the ride was absolutely terrible, even with the expensive custom springs and shocks.

adomakin,

I was recommended a while back to pick up 14'' fuchs to bring the overall ride height a bit lower; adjusting the torsion bars, adding turbo tie rods, etc... Have I done that? Not yet... but soon. One thing at a time for me... There are a few photos out there on this forum with that particular setup. I have an SWB and the ride height needs to be just right. Here's a photo I came across of a dropped ST I believe...

Is this car real, or a photoshop effort? I like. A wise friend of mine (a 50's hot rodder type) has a saying: "Low is cool, and you can NEVER be too cool"

jonny042,

its a doctored photo, I used to do this **** on a daily basis to ANYTHING with wheels!

Its the old trick of taking the original photo and cutting around the arches/along the cill, then sliding the wheels and tyres under the car. Some selotape to hold it all together and bingo- thousands of pounds of modifications before your very eyes!

I'm with your rodder mate. Always have been really. That may upset a few people here.. But for me the way a car looks is a very big part of what makes it attractive. Sure its nice to know it handles like its on rails but my car (if I ever get to build it) will be 99% street and so will not need to be the ultimate trackday weapon.
I'd even go so far as to say I'm happy suffer a harsh ride and some damage in the persuit of it looking better.
I remember a citroen 2CV that I had when I was 19. That thing was on the floor!
If I breaked any harder than a sensible amount it would hit the deck and sparks would fly!

LOL! And well said. Kinda reminds me of my old high school's football team. They may be small, but they're also slow...

About the limit and still have functional shocks connected to factory mounting points.

wrong car to do it with, if you ruin a bug, its a bug. having made many mistakes on a 911 I advise you to avoid making this one.

I really needed a laugh this morning. Funniest comment I have read in a while.

No disrespect to the OP, but this reply was funny.

Kinda what Dave said -- adjustments must be made.

Dropped mine down to 24" at the rear fender (after new 27mm torsion bars). High "G" corner the next weekend and sat the body down onto the CV joint - destroyed the CV and "hard to repair" under body damage. ($$ weekend)

Ran the front down at another event (don't drink beer while setting up your car late night at the track prior to an event - you may sometime repeat what you just told someone else to do). Shocks bottomed out. Hammered the adjustment lugs inside the koni's ... no more adjustments.... replace as needed.... (another $$ weekend).

Low is cool... dumb damage to an old car isn't....

This about max for the street.
