I think nine's point is that the re-11, while an excellent street tire, is just about the only tire available in the 245/16 size. There are some good track only or dot-r options by Hoosier and kumho however.

Yeah, I know. The thing is, a year ago there were really no choices. Bridgestone stepped up to the plate and committed to making the tires, perhaps because guys like me pestered the Bridgestone guys. So, now anybody that wants to run that size wheel can do so.
The lack of choices really doesn't bother me. I bought a new 930 in 1986, and had a couple other cars using a 245-45/16, so I've run quite a few sets of tires in that size. Once I started using Bridgestones (way back with the SO-2) I never looked back. I've found that the top tire in the Bridgestone line has always performed well for street use, so I never looked elsewhere. I ran Pirellis, Michelins and a half dozen other brands on other cars and overall, I liked the Bridgestones the best. If all we had was the old Fuzion, then he'd have a point. JR |
javadog,
My point was as rwilner stated...I'm surprised you missed it. There was a point in time when there were a handful of tire mfg who produced good performance tires in a 16; but not any longer. This plays a role in the desirability of the 9x16 Fuchs wheel. For the price of the aforementioned Fuchs; many, including myself have opted for a nice set of aftermarket wheels in a 17 or 18" and now have a reasonable selection of tires to choose from. As a secondary note, if you believe yourself and perhaps a handful of other guys who still run 16" wheels, is the reason Bridgestone still produces the RE-11, I'd have to conclude you may be delusional. Its nothing more than economics 101. If Bridgestone is one of the only games in town to produce a 16" performance tire, and they sell enough of them, they will continue production. When the demand goes away, so will the tire, just like the others. P.S. Did I say a Bridgestone RE-11 was a poor choice of tire? NO, but its one of the ONLY choices of tire left. P.S.S. I got spoiled by the price point and performance of the Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212 -------- Size: 205/55R16 Price: $86 ---------------- Size: 245/45R16 Price: $102 --------- A great set of performance tires for $400...Maybe for you, money is no object? Kudos, if that's the case.;) |
