7 & 9 Turbo Fuchs Value?

I've got two sets, both black center/anodized. I'm not getting any younger so I was thinking about letting one set go. One set is near perfect with nice tires and one set is excellent with not so great tires. I see them advertised for what I consider "stupid" money. What are these really worth? Appreciate you're input.

plumb4u2 12-14-2012 01:47 PM

They are worth stupid money....lol

If you have the holiday spirit ill give 1k right now, you pick the set;)

darrin 12-14-2012 02:17 PM

fwiw, it's the 9s that are rare/valuable. The front turbo 7s are the same wheels that were provided as rear wheels on "run of the mill" sc and carrera models fitted with 16" fuchs

serpico007 12-14-2012 02:24 PM

I've seen them on craigslist from an '85 model in great condition for $1200.

87930 12-14-2012 03:31 PM

I thought the 9's weren't available until 86?

If this is true and they were "real" you should have jumped on them

This is true, everyone has the 7's BUT I think most people would want to buy a nice matched set then sell their matched set of 6's and 7's

rwilner 12-14-2012 04:34 PM

Data point: I paid 2k for a set of 7s and 8s. Tires were nice bridge stones with 2k miles in them. They were and 8.5 out of 10 cosmetically. I sold my 6s and 7s for 1k. Tires were shot. They were a 9 or 9.5 out of 10.

For me, since mounting and balancing 4 new tires was close to 1k, I basically got the upgraded wheels free.

I wanted 8s instead of 9s because 245 16 tires (oe size for the 9s) are rare and getting rarer.

That said -- your 9s are worth more according to the market. How much more? Dunno...depends how badly someone wants them!! (Obviously)

Interestingly I was looking for new wheels for my E350, and ran into these today. 1980 Porsche 911 Rims, 1980 Porsche 911 Wheels at OriginalWheels.com
I called them and they professionally refinish them, paint, etc.

Not sure if anyone know anything about them, or their products, but sound very professional on the phone.

Another data point; I bought refinished 7s 8s x 16 (polished pedals and lips with black anodized support area) for $2000. These were 9.8 out of 10 condition and didn't come with tires. Also the first time I realized how light they really are.

Cheers,

16x9" Fuchs are worth as much as the buyer is willing to shell out. Personally I feel some sellers take full advantage of this and get real greedy.

Do I want a pair of 9's, **** ****ing yeah! I have been searching for a while now only to miss all the sales by minutes. :-( Haven't we all?

Another reference point for what its worth, I bought my 9" brand new in 2004 for $675 each.

SilberUrS6 12-14-2012 09:33 PM

I have seen them on eBay for $4000 (holy schitt!) and for closer to $2000 in other places for wheels in good shape. This is a pair of 16x9 Fuchs. 16x7s are dime a dozen.

Throwing this out there, it seems like the market has softened for them slightly over the past couple of years. I was chalking it up to the previously mentioned tire thing and, more importantly, the availability of 17" replicas?

16x9s Still worth plenty.

You are correct.

Condition is everything. Wheels that are close to mint are worth a lot more than wheels that are not. It takes about $400 to refinish one, if you use the guy that I do, so a mint 7 is still worth a fair bit of money. If you gave me a crappy one for free, I'd still have $400 in it before it was put on my car.

Price a new set of 9's and see what they cost now. It's a lot more than $675.

That's 675 each, so 1350 for a pair new in 04.

Yeah, I know. That wouldn't be enough for one wheel now. Pelican lists them at $1,455.50 each.

I agree...Premium tire availability in a 16 is slim to none. I am sure the current economic climate has done its part in softening the market as well.

javadog 12-15-2012 11:37 AM

Actually, you can get a Bridgestone RE-11 in the right size for a 9x16 and that's a very good tire.
