Engine running temperature
 

For those of you that have a temperature gauge in your cars, what is the freeway temperature show when it's say 70F outside? My car is a stock 2.7.

180 - 200 degrees F

My car is a 1975 with 2.7 and oil cooler in front right fender.

^^ Same as the good Doc but a 74 non-S.

Around the 190*F range for the given conditions.

Drop yer head to the right of the steering wheel....look left under the bezel of the temp gauge...you'll see little numbers, in Centigrade. There are a few threads with pics on the board that a search will find.

There are also little overlays that you can purchase. Or you can just watch when the needle stops rising and then dips abit....that's about 180-190F....when the thermostat opens.

105C in the exact middle = 221F

C = (F - 32) × 5/9

This is a really incomplete question but I know what your after and I ave many answers. For 70 degree day
1) 1977 911 no aux cooler up front= around 200f for my car
2) 1977 911 with turbo and cooler in fender = about 210-225f
3) 1977 911 with turbo and cooler in fender and duct in valance = 190-210f
4) 1977 911 with turbo and cooler in both fenders and duct in valance for both= 180 max on 70 degree day on the freeway never more. Maybe 210 degrees at over 100 mph all day long.
But...... The reason for more coolers for me is:
1) Vegas heat
2) long summers and traffic.
3) expensive engine I don't like to cook in Vegas heat.

You should make sure your gauge isn't off. I posted a similar video to this a while ago, but this one is of better video quality, and the stove in this video made a pot of water boil much faster than the POS hotplate in the old one.

Thank you everyone for providing the numbers. We all are running about the same temperature which is cool (no pun intended). It was just a basic question. I was not looking for any "it-then" calculations.

My 1986 930 runs at 180 consistently and has an additional oil cooler in the front valance.
