3.2 operating temp
 

Ok,
Well in the quest to exorcise the demons from the car and engine I replaced the internal thermostat and cylinder head temperature sensor. Well the oil thermostat required removing the right half of the intake manifolding as well as a bunch of other stuff. What was supposed to be a quick job ended up 4 hours in duration. Well and the head temp sensor wasn't much easier. That one only took 3 hours and I managed to get brake dust into my mouth, WTF! Ok, the idle is even more stable than it was after tightening all the intake runners.
After driving the car like it was stolen in the rain, the temps wouldn't go very high, about 160 deg F. So I guess my question is what temps do the other 3.2 guys get in different conditions? I can't imagine that I had 2 bad thermostats, ideas?

Optimimum temps for the 3.2
 

185F-When the front oil cooler thermostat is fully open.
210F-Max for engine life.

Mine's an 84 Carrera. My temperature depends on the season. In 50 degrees to 100 degrees it runs 185-190. I am cheating with an ER cooler. In the 110 degree range, it will hit 230 degrees in a drive through line(We have only minimal stop and go traffic.) I also need a top end, and I don't know how this effects running temperature.

Verified with my nifty Radio Shack IR Laser temp measuring stick! Calibrated withe the dogs butt and boiling water...

Can you verify when your oil lines heat up? The lines to the front cooler that is. If you external t-stat is stuck oil will always be flowing to the front cooler. It's a long shot, but easy to check by feeling the oil lines at different points in your test drive.
