Mystery Doodad Challenge

I'm sure the title got your attention! I was putting in new floormats (Lloyds, and really nice!) tonight, and re-discovered this little Blaupunkt doodad that has a wire going up under the dash into this lovely wiring harness. I believe it may be related to the other doodad mounted under the dash, but the under-dash doodad is not branded, and looks too cheesy to be a Blaupunkt item. It seems to have a speaker grille underneath. Hell if I know what it is. I'm afraid to yank it (yet), because I don't want to screw up the wiring depending upon how it was installed. Anyway, does anyone want to make a stab at what these items may be? Thanks...

The Blaupunkt doodad looks (from the markings on it) to be a remote control for auto reverse and FF/RW on a Blau tape deck. The underdash unit is the self-destruct unit. DO NOT PUSH THE RED BUTTON. ( In other words, I have no idea what that is)

looks like a remote CB speaker. I had something similar a long time ago.

I was a little afraid it was some sort of alarm system part, and didn't want to disconnect any wires. Perhaps this can be ripped out with no ugly side-effects.

 My Guess

The first (Blaupunkt) itme is a controller to flip the discs in the disc changer The second is a speaker for either a hands free cell phone kit or a CB speaker (as someone had already mentioned). What did I win???? Let us know. Bryan

I have a great respect for the self-destruct unit. I will keep my distance until others chime in and there is general agreement regarding its purpose in life.

8-track would make sense as they didn't have a rewind function

Didn't the 930s have a voice recorder option? That looks like a voice recorder, especially if it has a speaker grille on the back... Edit: I missed that the grille was on the second piece, but still...might be a recorder.

While we at it... What's up with the orgy of cable twisty cap junction things (my brain just died and I cannot for the life of me remember what they're called...) under your dash???

And still holding a copy of Three Dog Night's "Golden Biscuits"! Actually that would be a bit of an anachronism in an '82, but I like the image.

. I remember reading about the voice recorder option somewhere and marveling at the usefulness of a voice recorder in a loud car.

Mike, The tethered controller is for a Blaupunkt 3001 radio/cassette player. (which was actually a very good unit back in the day) It will auto reverse the tape when pushed, or if listening to the radio will allow you to scan stations... That's it, no other function. Know idea what the pos under the dash is.. cut it outta there!!

I believe the mystery box is the control for an older radar detector unit. Check to see if somewhere in the front of your car two clear probes, one on top of the other, sticking out from the bumper area. The top one being slightly larger in diameter then the bottom. This was a top of the line hidden police radar detector in it's day and may still be effective. One dial is on/off & volume, the other dial is sensitivity.

 I need that mystery Doodad

That is indeed a CR3001 remote control. My car has a flawless original 3001, but the remote is MIA. If you still have it and don't need it...
