993 GT-1 recreation project

Hi Guys,

Iīm purchasing a 993 Gt-1 project, with some parts to build one authentic re-creation of 993 GT-1.

The guy who made the body, actually worked with the real car in Europe at that era, and have some orignal parts to create a very nice body work.

Any one are intereted to be a partner to finish this project with me?

My goal is not make money out of it, But I think some one in this business can make some good profit with it.

You should team up with Chuck Beck!

Beck 904 -- The Ultimate Replica

parts4porsche 12-16-2012 10:05 AM

I met Chuck Beck before, he use to come to Brazil, when he built the 550 spyder replica.

that is a nice tip, I will contact him...

thanks

ShakinJoe 12-16-2012 10:19 AM

Where in Florida and what are you looking for? Do you need cash, technical expertise, mechanical help? Please clarify.

parts4porsche 12-16-2012 10:28 AM

near Sunrise.

looking for a partner, with money and technical skill. Best would be someone involved with porsche racing stuff already.

thanks!

parts4porsche 12-16-2012 05:09 PM

Jim2 12-17-2012 08:07 PM

Raceboy 12-18-2012 03:08 AM

I love it! And would seriously be interested in the kit of body panels + drawings for tube frame to build my own GT1 replica.

parts4porsche 12-18-2012 09:28 AM

Jim,

yes Kelly did a fantastic GT-1 replica but please check the differences to this one.

All dimensions is taken from a original factory race car, and factory drawings where used in the production.

We have used the front clip from a 993 Porsche, as the factory did when they produced the 25 original cars they made. This front clip was then welded together with the monocoque steel sheet metal floor on and the roll cage, just like on the factory cars.

Kelly also used a chevy V8. So it would be comparing apples to oranges.

thanks!

Wayne has the motor for this under a coffee table...

parts4porsche 12-18-2012 03:43 PM

I saw it yesterday, but itīs just a bare engine, I already have 3.8 993 turbo and 996 turbo engine to choose.
But do you think Wayne would join me to make the car? That would be nice...better, it would be a honnor!

parts4porsche 12-18-2012 03:46 PM

Just another note, I have the original fuel injection used on the GT-1 and GT-2 the Tagtronic 3.8, developed by Mclaren for it.

The bare engine is under the table - everything else (turbos, intercoolers, intakes, accessories) is in storage in the mezzanine. It's a complete drivetrain, including the sequential shifting transmission. It's the spare engine for the Lola racecar.

oops!

Sorry Wayne,

didnīt know you have the rest of the parts, I also would never guess you bought from the same person I bought the body.

Regards
Tadashi

I hope you ordered one more wheel! ;)

The bodywork looks VERY accurate. If there was no description I would have thought the real deal.

Fun fact: from what I can gather, the real car for front turnsignals had plexiglass covers and 951 signal units behind them.

Looks like you've already got some rear suspension?

I think there are one or two in the U.S. I know of one shop that has worked on one of them, if you want I can give you their contact info, send a PM. However they are not near Florida.

This is very cool!

Take care and happy holidays!

that is THE real deal, only not made from Porsche originaly

parts4porsche 12-18-2012 06:02 PM

Hey guys,

Wayne has the original powertrain for it, who think itīs good idea that he make the car with me?

here in Brazil there is a common saying that is: if you have the cheese and knife in hands, just do it!

guys, please vote!

Wayne letīs do it!

bivenator 12-18-2012 06:53 PM

I would like to see Wayne cut the cheese. ;)

Raceboy 12-18-2012 11:26 PM

It would absolutely be the most badass project out of anything I've ever seen so far if you put this GT1 chassis together with original powertrain sourced from "under Waynes table" :)

Perhaps roars 959 restoration could come up close, but not quite.

Buckterrier 12-19-2012 02:47 AM

Wow very cool, wish I was rich! Please keep posting as progress is made. What kind of coin it is worth once completed?

For some reason, I remember that the GT1 was made with 964 Speedster shells, cut right behind the driver's seat; including the Speedster's windshield.

Raceboy 12-19-2012 05:09 AM

Also, check this: Porsche GT1 monocoque - GT40s.com

parts4porsche 12-19-2012 05:37 AM

that is a very old thread, I tried to contact him, with no sucess but please note that is not a replica, he is repairing the original one.

sorry, I forgot to thank you Raceboy for the tip, I appreciate all the help to get more info about the GT-1

that is true, the windshield is from the speedster, but not sure about the 964 shell, isnīt about the same? 964 and 993?

Have you talked to Kevin Jeannette at Gunnar Racing ??
He's close by in West Palm Beach. A master at buliding custom Porsche Race Cars !!

Gunnar Racing

parts4porsche 12-20-2012 03:50 AM

Yep, Kevin was the first one I had contacted, but he is busy with many other projects. He wished me lucky to finish it. I might need it, since he explained me how difficult was to build the G99(GT-1 he made with original race parts)

thanks for the tip!

stuttgart46 12-20-2012 04:33 AM

You may want to talk to Brady at the 901 Shop.
This is a cool project. My advice would be to build it with a motor that doesn't cost you $5,000 every time you start it up. That way you get to enjoy the car.

wayner 12-20-2012 11:51 AM

How about these guys?

Hi guys,

This GT-1 project now is for sale :(, better than make a partner for it.

Iīm too far away to make a deal like that. So, any interested buyer please email me or PM me.

I will explain all the detail and all the parts included on it.

Body kit and some parts are located in Florida Sunrise.

Hope some GT-1 lover find it and finish it.

Thank you guys for all the help and tips.

ErVikingo 12-22-2012 11:59 AM

I'm in Sunrise and had never heard of this project being around.

Having been around the block a couple of times, its a very cool project but I can't see a way out where it would make money sense when you are ready to move to the next toy.

Best of lucks!

parts4porsche 12-22-2012 12:07 PM

The whole project sits in a small warehouse I rent right now, that is why nobody seen that...

are you interested?

thanks
Tadashi

CCM911 12-22-2012 12:37 PM

Wayne - Peer Pressure. you've gotta put this together. :)

Tadashi,

Tempting but to finish it to my standards i can see the total go into 991 4S territory. Good luck with it. Kind regards and "feliz Natal"
