My Porsche 911

Ok guys I have this transformation thread going on another forum.I thought since Im on Pelican and buy from Pelican so often,I should get the thread going on this forum also.

I will cut and past my comments over from the other forum and add pictures as well. You will notice I had no prior expierience with Porsche cars besides driving allot of them when I had a prior automotive business that delt w/exotics/luxury brands.I was into the custom trucks/and cars but had always admired European and Exotics from a distance and later started another company dealing with just that.I had never owned anything worth mentioning here untill this car.Anyway, looking back just a few months,I can see my mistakes and my ideas that were based off my old custom car/truck ideas.Anyway, the car is really shaping up and Im excited to post this.Enjoy and thanks to all the forum members for some great ideas and tips along the way.

HERE WE GO!!!!
Here she is the day I got her,she was tired and had been sitting for over a year...

From day 1 other forum 05-02-2010
Picked up this weekend.1982 SC.I'm not a big mechanical/tool guy but plan on learning on this car with the help of some good friends.I'm a car fanatic and this is my first cool car worth mentioning.Have done allot of imports and Trucks. So I'm excited about this car. Will be studying (actually have been already) the motors and upgrades for these cars.Any suggestions will be appreciated.

This is my first post.I have allot of automotive resources to build this car up.I plan on tasteful cosmetic upgrades including new paint, new wheels/tires,re doing the interior to original except for the race seats which will recover in leather, want to go back to the original SC lid/whale tail combo.keeping the roll cage, deleted back seat.

The motor is what I need help with....where to turn for ideas?Where to start. This car has the original 3.0 but it has a mega squirt fuel injection set up????Change or not to change?Like I said..not up to par on the engine stuff...need help, and am humbly asking.Want to be dependable for 3-5 times a week, mayby daily driving and want to be around 300HP if possible.I have full access to tools and shop with lift and most important in FL. ---air condition.

Will be upgrading brakes and suspension tranny if needed to accommodate for larger HP.
Again fellows,I'm not the best with the tech side...but ready to learn.Thanks.

Seems that the car was a track car mayby, and I bought it from a girl whos exhusband passed away last year and she got it.I found it in the alley with for sale signs in it.Offered $5K,she wanted more or said would part it out,I drove it,said 6K,started walking away, she said ok.Not sure if its a great deal, but I love the way the car drives, smells, sounds and looks.

No guages working,no air (removed) Does have alpine stereo,pw sunroof. Will be posting more pics soon and will be ripping apart and bringing back to life very soon.

Sorry for rambling...very excited.

Original color was lhasa green.

Oh yeah PS-snapped the alternator belt on the interstate yesterday.Pulley was loose and needed shims.Got that fixed and she runs strong.Smells like its running rich, the mega squirt is dumping lots of fuel is what my one buddy is telling me.

After a simple bath/wax...her good side

Hello...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I been researching more then anything.I did add 19" Victor Equipment wheels from a new 2010 Boxster.19x8 front 19x9.5 rear.Tires are 225/35/19 front,275/30/19 rear.I used the adaptors from the old wheels but they do rub in the front with a full tank,so I need a smaller adaptor to suck the wheels in a bit. Will be figuring that out this weekend.

I ordered new Bilstein stut inserts, the drivers side is blown out.I also ordered a Weltmeister Cambermeister strut brace.Once we get the front end back to being drivable,I am delivering the car to European performance here in St Petersburg where the machanic there (Mickey) will go through the engine and tear out the megasquirt fuel system and get the car back to normal spec with some small performance upgrades.Thats it for now...here some before and after photos so far.....

the color has been photo shopped black on last 2 shots (thats what color it will be).

hi

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi thanks, after finally getting the new bilstein front strut inserts installed this wknd and being able to drive it hard for the first time,it actually runs strong at high speeds (interstate),runs real rich and bogs down in daily driving traffic.Exhaust is hard to take.Im going to try and figure out the megasquirt before doing anything wild to the motor.

Here is what we did this weekend.New front struts,rolled/shaved front fender lips and removed a 1/4 inch spacer from the hub,so fronts no longer rub.Added a Weltmeister strut tower bar...completely different driving car now due to fat tires/struts/sway bar.Tires are 225/35/19 front and 275/30/19 rear (no rub).

Doing turbo tie rods/front anti sway bars and rear shocks next week. Will keep you informed.

thanks for the positive remarks. Its my car and I like it.When its painted black it will be HOT!

I ordered turbo tie rods today, new ball joints,Elephant Racing front Poly Bronze Suspension Bushings, rear bilstein sport shocks.I also found out I already have the SSI heat exchangers that run into an old rusty Ansa 2 in 1 out muffler. So will be upgrading the muffler soon.Ordered new oil filter and Swepco tran fluid for a service i will do myself next week. Also ordered new aluminum interior door handles and a few other bits and pcs.

So after next week front suspension has been completly rebuilt except for torsion bars.

PS removed the "Porsche" logo sticker and stone gaurd off the lower sides of the car last night. Also replaced all bulbs (exterior and interior) with new fresh bulbs.

Shes comin around.......

Your correct they are a bit heavier,I did not weigh them.I picked them up real cheap.Down the road I will switch to a HRE or some other light weight wheel, hopefully with a deeper rear dish. For now its just a cruiser, and it handles descent. As you can see by the mods Im doing,I am tuning in the suspension first so that I know the car is where I want it.Then we will get into the motor.

More goodies came today...................

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

turboe tie rod kit
Hella H4 upgrade kit
Ball joints
f/r wheel bearings
elephant racing control arm bushings
alunimum interior door handles
Swepco tranny fluid
oil filter
New front hood shocks
1 window switch
ignition switch (electrical portion)
10 extended wheel studs for front wheels
Bilstein sport shocks for the rear (2 new HD were installed last week on the front)

makes for a good weekend

ordered new 19" Fikse wheels today, polished Profil 10,will shed some serious weight over the Victor equipment wheels i have on now. Will also be switching to Michelin PS2 tires.Im having some understeer issues now.Thinking since the larger wheels are on,its affecting the geometry of the tie rods, kind of the opposite of lowering the car.

checking back in.I'm in loosing weight mode now.I completely tore apart the car today.Ripped out the front spare/jack and carpet, ripped out the rear seat carpet/padding(freakin hvy),pulled out all the front floor board carpeting, removed center console, ordered a braille 15lb. battery and relocating to smugglers box.I am going to make this car as light as possible now.I am selling the 19" Victor wheels (heavy) and I have ordered 19" Fikse wheels.I have 2 fronts already here, they weigh just over 20lbs no tires 19x8,same as my Ferrari 18" 355 challenge front magnesium rim that's 18x8.So I may have a bit of unsprung weight over the 16 inch fuchs, but not to bad.I will make up for it elsewhere.Roll cage is coming out also, its adding 40 pounds and I dont do track, just want it lightweight to compensate for 3.0 power.

I got a new MA shaw Duckatail to replace the 40 pound one that's on the car,the MA Shaw seems to be under 10 pounds.I have a new M and K exhaust coming to replace the heavy rusted Anza exhaust. The m and k will bolt up nicely to my SSI heat exchangers/headers.She coming around nicely!

Here some pics of the nose, front floor, rear seats (notice the original color on the rear seat area - llasa green).

Santa came early again today

iroc RSR fiberglass rear bumper
M/K 2 in 2 out stainless muffler
Braille 15 lb. battery (going into the smugglers box)

My custom tag came today also

Old exhaust Monza Rust special

new MA Shaw ducktail installed, muffler and rear bumper and new seals going on this weekend

Video clip of exhaust

not sure about the interior yet.I want it light for speed, but I have no plans on tracking yet.Not sure what Im going to do.Thinking about a bed liner type material inside on the floors, but that might be tacky.I really would like to have just paint but Its already to loud for me.So I need to regroup and think about some soundproof material and then whatever I can put over that, mayby lightweight carpeting.

So since I bought the car I have dumped 9K into it.Im looking at another $10K for good/high end paint job/media blast/strip and some brand new Fuchs wheels (yes I said brand new).Im no longer interested in the large wheels.I want lightweight for speed.Once painted (not sure which color yet) its getting new carpets, new Corbeau seats, new headliner, new roll bar.So shes coming around good.I still havnt installed all the front end suspension parts I bought.Im waiting for the new wheels/tires and I will lower it a bit on 16x7 and 16x8 Fuchs. The 19s on the car now are crazy heavy.I weighed the fronts at 52 pounds,I didnt do the rears yet,but its allot heavier Im sure (turned out to be 60lbs each).A fuch front rim/tire combo is around 36/37.15 pounds difference. So thats a huge unsprung weight saving on each corner.Should be noticeable in excelleration and cornering, which is what i want!Cant wait!

Anyway, here some pics of some new interior goodies...

Rennline floor plates and Rennline aluminum shift knob. The Rennline pedals go in tomorrow along with the Braille 15 pound battery up front. Will have more pics tomorrow.

Here is the Braille battery install,I know allot of people will say it should have went in the smugglers box but after talking to a few people and driving my car fast,I realized I need some weight in the front. The car is rear heavy and on the interstate I feel the front end lifting at speed.Plus if you look at how the gas tank is shaped, this makes up for weight on the passenger side of the tank.See how the tank is split, full on drivers side, split on passengers side,I figure with fuel in the tank, there has to be more weight on the drivers side.Plus throw in a 40 pound battery and a 200 pound driver...the drivers side is loaded down....so 15 pounds back to the passengers side made sense. We shall see,I plan on driving it tonight when the weather cools off.

PICS>>>>>>>>

Also got the pedals on today...crappy cell phone picture

Ok Im back

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just got back from vacation.will be updating later today.I have brand new Fuchs and tires for the car and the interior is getting some work done to it

Fuchs finally!!!!!!!!!!! Fuch yeah!!!!!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First the old wheels (The 19s).Victor Equipment Fronts 19x9 weighed 52lbs each.Rears 60lbs each.So im saving 16 pounds per wheel up front or 32 lbs total.Im saving 20 lbs. each rear wheels/40 lbs. total.Thats 72 lbs. of UNSPRUNG weight dropped,WOW,should be able to notice that in every aspect!!!

Brand new Fuchs 16x7 front 16x8 rears. The fronts even came in the original boxes from 86.Fronts weigh 36lbs each w/tire,rears 40lbs.Went with Bridgestone SO2 tires N3 Porsche spec (filled w/nitrous).

Its getting a factory 3.2 intake sytem w/Motronic ECU from a 87 carrera.I had megasquirt but me and my tuner have agreed its just not what I want or like on this car.I had like a gen 1 megasquirt and it was very limited. While the engine is out,we are adding a new altenator/fan housing and new fan, mine is old and cracked.New oil return lines (leaking). Will also be looking for anything else that needs fixing. Also paint shroud and powdercoating tin.

We also added front blinkers to the car,it had lenses but no housing or actual lights (scary when making a turn). There were some holes in the floor pan from the previous owner rigging the race seats into the car. Those were filled and epoxy primered.I bought the proper seat rails from Corbeau and they were installed for the Corbeau LG1 seats (which will be replaced with new seats, these are worn pretty good).

Thats it for now, more to come...allot more... Lots of $$$$ is leaving me also...oh well,I will be driving a beautiful strong running, restored 911SC lightweight when its all done....how many of them do you see every day?I cant wait....

PS Complete new suspension including full Elephant racing polybronz front/rear and 22/28 torsion bars going in soon as well, lowering as well...parts in hand just need the install...See ya!

When we took the motor out we noticed my fan housing and fan needed replacing.
I bought the new housing and powdercoated it red.I ordered the Rennline polished altenator strap. The new fan/blades are being polished also.
We powdercoated all the engine tin (2nd pic) surroundings flat black.

Last night I ordered the Wevo shifter w/coupler and also the Wevo motor mounts.

Should be a completley new vehicle when I get it back in a few weeks.Still needs paint.

The car is no longer a $6K Porsche, you guys were right, when done its going to be around $30-$40K. Not saying that to bragg, just letting anybody who is thinking about revamping basically everything, that it is a financial commitment...if you will.I had no clue when I bought the car. But,its a fun project and I cant wait for the reuslts!!!!

yeah I bought it off 34th between 9th and 16th.... small world

Anyway, yes, when its ready,I want to put it to good use and I know I cant do that on the streets here,so i want to run it on the track,DE and all that stuff,I'm not familiar with all of the regulations/requiermentsit yet, just joined PCA 2 nights ago.But would like to have some Porsche buddies!

I have been up to Action I'mports once, but I went with Heritage restoration in Largo to help w/the stuff I didn't feel I could do.They have the car now.I will have pics up this week of the motor out and on the engine stand. When i dropped it off,it had heavy 19s....stock suspension, and a mega squirt EFI set up.

When i pick it up,it will have new Fuchs (70lbs lighter/unsprung),elephant racing bushings and new trailing arms, new torsion bars, new turbo tie rods, ball joints, wheel bearings, basically new suspension,lowered/corner balanced and then the carrera 3.2 intake system with motronic and dyno tuned, throw in a wevo shift kit/motor mounts.

Should be a tad bit different driver.

If you just joined PCA, I am one of you local "welcoming" contacts! Jeremy and I are at pretty much every DE so we can talk to you about regs but it is pretty easy.

If you do not drive, you should at least take the easy and awesome drive down to Sebring. We can introduce you around and you can get a feel for how the DE works and get the lay of the land. I will have a scooter down there that you can buzz around on as well.

Nice project car for the price.....but for God's sake ( again...as I seem to post to so many guys here).....please put a protective rubber booty on the battery POSITIVE side !!!

(Why is it so many on this forum don't do this ? ....and we wonder why these cars burn up faster than magnesium framed Messershmitt Bf 109's !!!)

Nippy, I've been following your thread on the 6 as well. Keep posting man. I'm in the same boat as you. Mine is still getting a lot of body work done. Best of luck. Wish I lived further south next to you guys.

Shakinjoe, any interior shots of yours in your thread yet?

Still plan on painting it black? I kinda like the grey color but then the original lhasa green would be unique. Can't say I have ever seen an SC that color. Interior color would definitely have to change though Looks like it is going to be an great car when it is done.
