Finally joined the asylum. Reading and the odd post here and there. Mostly in the Cayenne Forum as we already have a CTT. But pick up a 78 911 SC from a friend for a song. Tune up on his wife's Sienna and repack the wheel bearings on his 3 utility trailers. Car has absolutely no rust. I mean none. Anywhere. Original Cali car. No history yet. European Auto Works sticker in engine compartment.

VIN # 911820654. Engine # 6590338. Not sure if the original engine but doesn't matter. Big hole in the side of the case. So now looking for a rebuild-able case or good used complete to rebuild.

Here's some pics. Enjoy. Hope they work.

Ken

Unique color! SCs are the very best. However, when they say the engine is "bulletproof", they don't mean 50 caliber proof. You're going to need a few rolls of duct tape for that one.

If you are competent to repack wheel bearings, then I think between help from this forum and a some grit on your part, the engine drop and swap/recase is totally doable. Some pelicans have even been known to help in exchange for beer.
Its nice to see another 911 with D90 wheels. It gets lonely in here sometimes.

I've always loved brown cars. Wife's E60 BWM was the only one in town for a while. Never see brown so you always seem to look at them. Rod dropped down and poked the hole haven't found the cap for it. Would have had a better look but customer cars have to get finished first.

Interior is rough. Front seats are power out of something else. No rear seats in it just carpet. So looking for complete rear seats to recover along with the fronts to match the dash. Most parts I can get from Worldpac and Pelican. So if anyone up in Alberta has a 3.0L core or has a heads up, that would be great. I'm just happy I don't have to do any body work for the time being. I'd really like a RS style front bumper. Also got a Carrera 4 deck lid with it. So if anyone wants to trade I'm game.

Transplantable engines show up all the time in the parts forum. You might find a case, but might have more fun with a 3.2 or a 3.6. Depends on how much the family comptroller holds on to the wallet, I suppose.

And certainly, the interior can be put right fairly cheaply. But when you've got a 3.6 in an SC body, I don't think you'll notice the interior much.

There are things that have to be done, but IIRC, the 915 bolts up to the 3.6. Absolutely bolts up to the 3.2.

I got a set of staggered 993 5 spokes. Look like the Cup Style. Problem is they're chromed. The plating shop here can dechrome but cant remove the nickel base. Short of blasting it off, is there any suggestions? Planning on powdercoating the spokes gold and polished lips. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Hmmm.... Let's see, a red fan and a hole in the case... Any builder come to mind???

All past history now. Right now, you have a lovely car in search of a transplant. I cannot over-stress how much fun and how cool a 3.2 transplant is!
