Air filter

Hi, has anyone ever installed one of these?
I've had these on my golf and jeep but was wondering if it was a good idea to install one on my 911.

The regular air filter is so hard to re-install and one of the back clips was already broken when I bought the car.

Thank you in advance.

I like K&N and use them on things that run on snow and water. I had one on a chevy 4x4 and didn't like the amount of fine dust that was getting thru into the intake!!!! My SC had one in it when I bought it, I took it out, I also kinda live in a dust bowl.....

If you do a search for "cone filter", "after market intake" and the like you will get many hits (for example):

I like the idea of reusing the same filter and the air in Montreal is almost clean : P
I bought a k&n filter same shape as the original filter but it seems kinda loose (not as tight as a regular orange filter).

K and N is a great way to fill your intake with dirt. I know from experience on 3 different cars including the 911. Yes I cleaned and oiled the filters at the recommended interval. I now use paper filters.

I've had the MSDS cone filter on my car for about 5 years.I clean and oil it every other oil change, or about once a year. When I take it off for cleaning I wioe the inside of the throttle body
I find very little dust inside, not enough for me to be concerned.
Have you seen the GT3rs 4.0 motor from the factory ?
looks like somebody at the factory did not get the memo about K&N filters....

race car motors are usually rebuilt every race

you may not see dirt build up with a K&N or similar because the particles are small enough to go all the way down into the engine

use the correct paper filter - the K&N offers nothing

For those of us with Webers or PMO's there is no paper filter available. So for us it actually does offer something... a filter that fits.

As an aside, i think people have been using these for 30 years now so like oil, gear oil, everyone has an opinion. I assure you that 99% of the people using these for YEARS have NO issues and arent rebuilding their engines. Nor is Porsche rebuilding the GT3's it is selling new with these.

No change in performance, sound great (if you got a cab) and look better.

Had to fab a bracket to avoid chaffing on the air manifold.

I would agree with that. I actually wished someone would make a paper filter for the Weber/PMO. Now that they are selling PMO ITBs for aftermarket EFI I would think there are enough non-racers out there that could benefit from a paper filter.

There is a paper solution (if you can deal with 1/4" taller height). See half-way down this thread:
