Need help /advice for new/complete body harness into 89 ROW cab

If anyone can help with this, I'm restoring this car, and need a new loom for the car, 89 911 3.2 Carerra by VIN. Its not a US car so I'm not sure if that is different so much being ROW. One difference I know of is the front fender side blinker.

I won't be needing the engine harness, and I have a used brain for the cab roof. Everything else I do need. How can I get a new factory harness for the car, the right one at the right price if that is possible?

Thank you for any great advice!
bernard

Kroon Wiring makes all kinds of harness for cars. They are faculty correct and quality. That would be my suggestion if you need new ones.

Thank you Chris!

I did check out their web site. Seems the might need a donar harness for some jobs which I don't have. I don't necessarily need a new one, but if I could get new it might be my first choice.

I'm not in a big hurry, just trying to find the right stuff for a proper restoration. Here in Japan, anything new from Porsche is retail nearly double the price. I'll avoid that and try to get it from abroad.

I'll continue to put some feelers out on the forum on this for a used one or a new one ROW one.

Bernard

I parted an '88 Cab not that long ago and carefully removed the wiring harness. It was in really nice condition and I wouldn't have hesitated to reuse it in another car as is. Like it or not, Cabs are the first to get parted when presented with major damage and the repair or part out decision. Some of the parts dismantler companies will have one, but I don't know if they will take the care I did in taking it out. It was quite labor intensive.

I think I know what you mean LUFTKUL! 10 years ago I bought a damaged 964, carefully dismantled the complete loom, labeled every wire. I'll post some pix I took on the weekend. I thought then of using it in a 911 with some modifications. 10 years later I have realized it wasn't the right move. Now i will go back to original spec Was your harness a row spec?

Thank you very much!
Bernard

Say everyone, not tryin to bump this thread, but would anyone know any or all differences between a row harness like this vs. a similar one from a USDM car? As said above, I only know about the side markers on front fenders. How about diagnostics? Were there issues on wiring for grey market cars back in the pre 964 era especially 89?

My goal is only to get the correct 89 row cab harness for the entire car, minus engine harness. New is first priority, yet used, like new is fine.

Regards to the forum,
Bernard

Dennis Powell (Timmy2) builds exceptional wiring harneses. He has done a couple for me including a custom engine harness. Has also done work for a couple of friends. Great guy. Give him a call at
360 878 6276. Tell him hi from Gary in Clayton NC.

I get the impression the factory only built one main harness where ever possible, although some of the sub-harnesses may be different. Which makes sense.

For example, my US '77 wasn't originally fitted with H4s (which had side/city lights), they came equipped with US running lights in the bumper. However, the harness that goes to the headlight buckets already has the spade connectors for the side/city lights right there - and the harness for the US running lights runs up/connects to it there.

Do you mean the post-1986 EU-required side flasher/indicator repeaters? There's probably a RoW-only sub-harness for that...

[Edit] - yeh, look at section 9-02 illustration 9-12 for a RoW 1989. Item #5 is 911.612.177.02 "harness, N177, side turn signal".

Now check US PET for the same year. Same drawing (with #5 shown) - but item numbers in the text skip from #4 to #6. Not used on US cars.

Sorry, I don’t build anything but the basic engine harness and fuel injection harness for ‘84 and newer. Model year ‘83 and older is what I am set up for.

Porsche went crazy with all new wire sizes and connectors that I don’t have, nor can I find in the ‘84 and newer cars.

Too busy with what I’m doing now to go down the ‘84 and newer rabbit hole.

Thanks spuggy! I think you answered my question Yes, I did mean the mid front fender marker/blinker on row cars of that era So I will give this a rest now. I need row stuff.

I'm currently waiting for some factory build spec information. This is taking time from Germany, but in time, I may get a new harness. Not to labor it. Thanks to Timmy2 and his happy, proud customer also for good feedback. For now, this thread can rest or die.

All the best to the forum, and you all,
Bernard

My thought.....and my 75 will need new wiring soon (other things come first).....why buy a uses setup? It's already old, may be cut up. I bet if you call Kroon they can accommodate you. Maybe be expensive, I don't know. But worth a call. I have read they will even do them customer, like my 1975, but with a full harness to accommodate my 1992 engine. Just my 2 cents, and it didn't even cost you that so......

Not necessarily. That particular repeater harness you inquired about (911.612.177.02)? Exact same part # for 911, 964 & 993 fitment - though US cars didn't get them until the 993.

Thank you Chris!

I've been thinking about using them. Gonna go see a friend, who I gave my old harness to as junk. I was going to throw it out, and I cut it rear tunnel just easier to get out. If I can get it back, if he still has it, I'd have the donar harness. I'll check this week, but that was years ago.

Thanks spuggy!

I've never looked at PET, and I don't know how to access it. 15 years ago a friend gave me a CD with the PET data, but I never looked at it. I will try to find out more about it.

Interesting how your car has multiple generations of wiring. My car has some different factory wiring, something I didn't mention. Though 89 chassy, it had 964 identical oil cooler and front left a/c condenser, both with fans and wiring for sensors as well. Chassy base was a 3.2 Carrera however.

I 'm sorry I didn't mention that, and that is why I'm waiting for info from the factory where the car was assembled. This is still going to take time I think, and so I patiently wait.

Best,
Bernard
