Electrics in the frunk (1980 SC)
Hi folks -
I bought this car a few months back and just started going through it to tidy up some electrical connections. It looks like over the years there have been a couple additions / modifications and I'm not totally certain what the original setup was. If you wouldn't mind helping me with some input on what I'm looking at it would be helpful. 1. The positive wire coming off the battery has this connected to it. Because of where th gas filler is I can't really trace them. One wire is a thick gauge, the other feels like several smaller ones in a sheath. Isthr thick wire for the starter? The other feeds the fuse box? Did these two originally connect directly to the battery terminal? They're looking rather short right now. ![]() 2. I found this loose connection under the spare tire. Since the headlights were modified, is this part of the original plug? If not any ideas what it's for? ![]() 3. Just for giggles this is the fuse box. Does this look unmolested? ![]() Thanks! |

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, the blower is connected. This is on the passenger side of the car.

I wonder if you are now running a relay for your headlights? Upgrading to halogens requires this modification or you basically melt your hi beam stalk connections at the steering wheel cowl.
Two things: Get a manual with colored wire charts (or download from 'net) and print it out so you can trace function by wire color. Next, use the manual to carefully cross-check your fuse colors (that is, amps) to their current location. I spent an afternoon with fresh blister packs of fuses: red, blue, white, and yellow. I pulled the negative off the battery and replaced every fuse with a new one, carefully checking contact condition. Then I pulled the negative cable at the body and freshened up the ground in the trunk. Can't hurt.

That one connector, the one with the protective cover that's not on it, looks like a Battery Tender connector to me. The other items; like the big fat blue wire and whatever is in the plastic wire harness stuff, don't look stock to me. Hard to tell where they go.
Aftermarket big wattage amplifier, perhaps? Definitely not starter cable. |
