Opinions on nose bras

One came with my car. I put the hood portion on today and it looks good without the other piece. I am sure there are pro's and con's what are they?

I run one...with a clear pocket in it that I slip the front plate into. That way I comply with the state "must run a front plate" laws, while still not drilling holes in the front end...

Jack I thought it would look silly myself and I imagine if I put the whole setup on it would. But the portion for the hood doesnt look bad. With a black car it doesnt really stick out. I can post a pic tommorow. I have two small chips on the hood that bug the crap out of me and this hides them nicely. Its to early in this cars life for a respray even if I did the nose only.

Lots of guys run just the hood piece on the track, at least. I'm going to be repainting my whole front end pretty soon to make up for my laziness with the bra when I track the car.

You're right, yours is too pretty (and too new) to be repainting.

The damage:

I have the two pice bra. I always have the hood portion on, unless it's raining. I use the second fender and valance piece for the track. I have not had ANY harm come to the paint under the bra. I am sure to have a good coat of wax on the paint under the bra however.

Jack I wish you were here in Ma., I would like it if you took me for a spin on the track so I could really see this bad boy run. I am going to need to take a few lessons, I have to many bad habits.

I bought a roll of self adhesive clear plastic film and used these people as inspiration: http://www.armourfend.com/

Only visible up close and protects the vital areas under the headlights and the vertical part of the front bumper. Works fine. BTW I also have it on my flag style rearview mirrors.

yeah, the plastic film seems sensible. esp. if you've got fresh paint.

of course mines full of chips so i don't care

I've never really seen the point of bras other than for temporary use (on the track, long trips, etc.).

People say they use them to protect the paint that they can't see. So I ask if them if, at some future time, they'll take the bra off and enjoy the paint that they've saved. They usually say no.

My feeling is, if you keep a bra on all the time, there might as well be bare metal underneath it.

I have the two piece bra as well. I only use it when on a.) long trips on the interstate and b.) any Rgruppe runs with da boys!!

For just fun 'round town' p-car fun, no bra needed or wanted.

If anyone is interested, I have a complete hood bra for sale - that is, it covers the complete hood. Fits long hood cars only (early 911). If so, we can chat privately.

I actually use just the part that fits on the hood. It covers some chips and the car is black, so the bra is hardly noticable.

I used to do the same on my '67 and liked the black contrast it provided and it covered some big dents!

i just got the 2 piece bra for father's day. after reading some posts about how "stupid" it looks, i pulled off the large piece that covers the fenders, valance, etc. and left the hood piece on. looks pretty good and i like it better. i dont want to be driving around in a "stupid" looking porsche...what would the neighbors say?

What I particularly like are people who put bras on Corollas and Neons.

Actually, here in LA, that mostly what you see car bras on. Applications where it appears that the bra actually seems to be lending structural support to the vehicle (or is used as an alternative to costly body and paint work).

Big black Naugahyde bras on upper end cars generally was left back in the '80.
