Porsche curb weight

Was looking around for the weight of my car, and found this.
Porche Curb Weight
Thought it might come in handy.

Do these #s sound about right. I have a 1975 911S. Does this mean my car only weighs 2370 pounds!
That's awesome.

The sticker on my door says it is over 3000, but I never thought it was that heavy.
Interesting

The curb weight in the little white spec books for that vintage 911 should show 2425 as the curb weight. However, there are various weights - no oil or fuel, for instance.

The 3000 might refer to the maximum weight with passengers and baggage and so on. The sticker ought to be interpretable, like GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating).

That list looks a bit sketchy to me.

Also keep in mind those are base car weights with only standard equipment for that model year. Add sunroof, A/C, tails, etc and the weight adds up.

Later cars with more standard equipment, like A/C, have higher base weights.

I have a '74 and I had it weighed with about a half tank of gas. 1110 kg = 2447 lb. I suppose it could approach 2370 lb with less gas, no windshield washer fluid (~16 lb !), no radio, etc.

Makes me wonder what my gutted '74 weighs. No A/C, no heater motor, no rear seats or sound insulation, recaro front seats, RS carpet, 12lb flowmaster muffler, RS door panels and pulls, lightweight starter, no spare tire, compressor or tools. But it does have an '83 SC engine, so that puts some weight back on. I have no place to weigh it in this town, so all my guesses are from taking base weight and subtracting/adding for various removal and additions. I'll probably never know the actual weight.

You can easily find out!

There are all sorts of places with public scales and truck weight stations. Just google "public scales" and you'll find one in your area.

I had mine done at a moving and storage place by my house. You just roll your car up, pay $10, and they give you a printout with the weight.

BTW, when I mentioned 1110 kg/ 2447 lb for my car, above, it was weighed with the whole audio system still in it, all soundproofing, the radio-telephone transceiver, alarm system, and also everything else that is stock.

Actually, I had hoped it would be less then, and I'm sure that now it is. I should go and get it weighed again when the snow and salt are gone.

I'll shoot for 1075 kg/ 2370 lb. That shouldn't be too hard.

do you want the actual wt.?

or the official wt.??

for the latter, there is a DIN std. which may have been changed at some point in time during manf. of the 911 - there is at least one old thread on this and maybe a search on "DIN" will pop it up w/o too much other clutter

Remember....

truck scales are really calibrated to weigh 12,000 lb trucks...
they are on the pointy end of the bell curve when you ask them to weigh 2500lb cars

many are off by hundreds of pounds when asked to perform in that small range

That sounds a little light, may be a "dry" weight. (oil fill on my car weighs over 25 lbs, given the commonly-accepted specific gravity of 0.93, and 20 US gallons of gas weighs over 140 lbs).

PO took my '77 (with SC flares/fuchs) to a weighbridge after fitting a 3.3 turbo - said it weighed 2490# with no gas, tools, spare or carpets. But they don't always do so well on light cars.

Just taking one year, those figures look a little suspect:

1977 porsche 911 Carrera 2558
1977 porsche 911 Turbo 2977
1977 porsche 911 - 2370
1977 porsche 912 - 2514

The '77 MY 911 weighs less than a 912? Eh? The non-intercooled 3.0 930 with the tiny brakes weighs 130 pounds MORE than the 3.3 930 from the 1978 MY with the intercooler and 917 brakes?

I find it curious that the G50 Carreras are listed by Porsche to weigh the same as the 915 3.2s. Has anyone bothered weigh their stock or mostly stock G50 Coupe?

Try a nursery wholesaler for a scale that is accurate to within 20lbs or so.
