It's 2013, what the latest on 9/11 x 15 tires

Ok I know there is always talk on this but it my time make the purchase and I want to see what the latest suggestions for 9 and 11 x 15 tires. I have a set up weld ups for an RSR backdate project. Less concerned about cost, more concerned about cool.....but not ridiculous.

Thanks.

Sadly, the michelin TB series are the best bet for sizing, but not price ! around $2200 landed at your door from usa sources. Maybe (dollar vs pound conversion) Longstone in england is less. We have tried hand grooved Hoosiers (R 6 compound) but they last about 2-3k miles tops on the street. These are about 1/2 the price of the michelins, so you could say you get 4k miles out of two sets. Maybe some can chime in here on how many miles the TB 5 and/or TB15 michelins have given them
Some have discussed getting Avons hand grooved too, the new Pirelli Corsa Classic; but again all these are race compound tires with limited street life.

Sucks as Hoosier has harder compounds. Anyone ever contact them to see how many tires would be worth their while to tool up with the harder rubber?

For a while there was talk of Yokohama coming out with the AVS again, but then their tsunami did that in

What about Pirelli P-zero? They do runs for the Pantera/Countach guys every few years. I bought my last set of 345/35-15 from a run they did not too many years ago.

Yikes! I paid half that and thought it horrific. We really are in trouble with tire sizes. If only someone made a 315/30-17...

Think the closest you'll get is the NT01: P315/35ZR17, 25.43" OD

Yes and that's a half inch too tall. Nothing the right height is the right width. The 345/5-15's are 24.5" tall and 13.5" wide. Perfect size but the 4.75" sidewall height is too thick. Same dimensions on a 16" wheel would be killer. That and a set of 245/45-16 on front. Ah to dream ...

Eddie ... whre abouts in Bmore are you. Im downtown and have an rsr build going aswell. I talked to Krause Racing about Avons. They recomended them as they have used alot of them in the past on builds. About $450 a tire hand grooved and $460 for the rear. A friend of mine has Mich TB's on his ST build that TRE built outside of annapolis. He seems to like them. I think he was in about $2K for the tires from Longstone Tire UK.

I have been running the Hoosier Vintage TD variety for a couple of years now without any issues; however, they are the 16 inch variety. The 15 inch are available as well. Phil told me they were custom made for the Porsche RSR and available here:

http://www.philsracetires.com/pricesheets/HOOSIERvintage.htm

As you can see, they are very reasonably priced and may fit your need.

I don't drive the RSR as much as I should, and I have never tracked the car, but just thought I'd share.

The TD is a compromise as its a bias ply tire. They also flat spot if the car sits for a long period of time. The thumping goes away after the tires warm up, but these are race tires. Make no mistake about that

Comments from replica GT40 guy that runs them - posted here:
I used them on my GTD for track and street in 15" rim. They are bias ply tires with a more race type compound so they will heat up nicely on the track and pick up everything, but not in street driving. I also noticed if the car is parked for longer periods (days/weeks) the tires will get flat spots that will go away with driving, but those first few miles are like driving on railroad ties.
The street TDs have a very forgivable "slide" at the limit before letting go and tire pressure changes will make big changes in handeling. I liked that feature, because taking notes and observations and being able to tune for street and individual tracks with a pressure guage is cheap!

DB
so some good and bad. The pricing is indeed very good, the billboard white lettering can be removed with solvent. There is no decent size for a front tire as in 15" they still are at 25.5 diameter (same as the TB course in the REAR).
We are working with a tire guru on this to see if its possible to a) get a more street friendly compound b) different tread patterns c) different diameter size that would be acceptable for a 8-9" front rim.
This is exploratory and no idea if we can get successful with a new model/ source. Hope we can
