Thanks a lot, Wayne!
Now it looks like I've got yet another reason to pull my perfectly good 3.0 this winter to "freshen" it up.

That indeed is one of the new Dansk stainless steel mufflers. Very nice indeed.
Okay, some of you were wondering what happened to my hand. Well, I was trying to pull a zip-tie tight around the muffler straps so that I could get the small bolt into both holes. I was pulling on the zip-tie, and it snapped. This sent my hand in the opposite direction - right into the seam where the heat exchanger sheet metal is welded together. Needless to say, this hurt. I could also see little white tendons and stuff inside my hand. The cut went in about 1/8 of an inch deep... Me being the wuss that I am, I immediately ran up to my wife and said "hospital?" I woke her up. She was not happy. Not about my hand, and not about being woken up. Needless to say, I must have some bizarre clotting power, because it stopped bleeding about 2 minutes later. I proceded to tape it together and then began to pass out (remember: wuss). Anyway, she wanted to got to the hospital for stitches, but I thought that since it had stopped bleeding it would be okay. This time, I was right... Here's a pic: ![]() I now have better procedure for installing these muffler straps. If I remember correctly, I have had great problems with these pain in the ass straps in the past... -Wayne

Wayne:
I guess we all could say "ouch, that's going to leave a mark"! Definitely looks like suture candidate to me. But it is probably too late for that now. Do you still have full mobility in your fingers? I would keep some butterflies or other suture like material on it for about a week until it heals better. I would also keep plenty of antibiotic ointment on it if I were you. The tetanus shot suggestion is a good one. Oh BTW, I am not a physician, but I watch The Learning Channel often! Eric 83 SC

Superglue is the hot setup in a pinch. Wish I had thought of that years ago.
Forget the hospital/emer. room for stitches. Do your own stitches! The pain's already there, so how much more can it hurt? I did it once on two nasty heat shield gouges in my hand. Worked pretty good. Need a thimble to get the needle through the meat of the skin though. Unless you have a curved needle for doing stitches. I had to use a sewing needle. Rambo Shmambo! That dude was a wimp!

About three years ago, we had a guy at work who got in a fight at a bar in Boise.
During this fight, he ended up with a inch and a half bite on his nose... I mean it was so bad he could lift up his nose part way... he asked me "is it bad"? I just stood there ..... "um....yeah." So off to the ER we went... with blood all over his Bronco (sound familiar?). The Doctors stitched him up quick and home we went. Before we left the doctor asked how he managed to get bitten on the nose. He said that he was in a brawl... etc. The dos says "Wow that's pretty brutal." and Pazz says,... "you should see the other guy". When the stitches were ready to come out he didn't want to go to the base hospital becuase it hadn't been reported (ARI Alcohol related incident) and didn't want to go to a civilian hospital and end up paying the bill out of pocket again. ...so... on a Monday morning, there lay Pazz, on our training table, with a Tech Sergant leaning over him, cutting the stitches out of his nose with a leatherman. No kidding. It made my eyes water just watchng it.

Wayne, Marcesq and I had some trouble getting the muffler straps close together 2 wks ago., while reinstalling the muffler. we used very large vise grips or channel locks to pinch the strap ends and get the bolt threaded. I came home with very few scars from my clutch job.

Leland, what's the Big Deal?
Come on, you've never taken your own stiches out? I agree with Pazz; why waste time at the doctor's. Take 'em out yourself. I did and here's why:
I'm a manufacturing engineer and I work in a Big 3 manufacturing plant. One day, during a line trial I grabbed a Leatherman knife with the wrong side against my hand (I was in a hurry), trying to open a box and I opened my hand up instead. So I go down to medical. The plant doctor proceeds to stitch up my cut, which had stopped bleeding. Then she says "OK, your all done". I look down to find that she had stitched up a scratch next to the cut! (this is a typical Occupational Medicine experience, by the way). I figured that I couldn't take a chance with the doctor removing my stitches so I took them out myself. |

If this were a German Duelling Fraternity, that incision would be the beginning of a "Rennomier-Schmiss" or "Bragging Scar."
I have one on my left cheek, caused by paint stripper during installation of my fuel cell. Many women find it sexy.
