engine noise...
Hi. I have what sounds like 'an object' sparodically pinging against the inside of the left hand side of my engine case. It's a 1970 911T. Is there a way of getting a magnet in there without taking everything apart? I'm also getting a sparodic change in the engine noise since this happened, however there is no loss of power. Any takers??? Thanks......

After she is warmed, Remove fan belt and ac if applicable and listen for the sound again.
Use a long screw driver and put you ear to it. Caveat, do not allow her to idle too long with out the fan belt just enough to repeat the noise. It may be your tensioners. What type of oil are you using?

Thanks Draco. I have the Carrera tensioners installed from a previous owner but not in contact so I don't know the full history. It's a new car for me and my first 911. You'll have to forgive my inexperience but what am I listening for? I can clearly hear the sparodic 'ping' of what sounds like a small object, nut, bolt etc without the screwdiver technique. I've topped up the oil with Castrol GTX 20/50 (I'm in a warm climate) and just getting parts to do a full service, I'm not running the car apart from a quick drive around the block but have stopped that incase I'm doing any damage...
