930 calipers

I'm looking after a set of 930 3.3 calipers, and have looked on both second hand parts and had a opportunity to by a new set last year, but i did not.

Some one with a second hand set told med that the new ones you can by, are not OEM parts .. Sounds strange when the Brembo name is displayed in the casting on the backside, and Brembo is an OME supplier.

Who actually made the original 930 calipers for Porsche during the 70' -80' ??
I thought it was Brembo, but maybe i am wrong ?

Are the new calipers from Porsche re-manufactured parts, or are they old stuff left in stock
from earlier days ?

Thanks in advance, if anyone could explain this a little bit further.

Roslin

All the ones I've seen are made by Brembo

The early ones like this one did not have the Brembo name cast on them

but at some point Brembo did become part of the casting

I do not know who is currently supplying them, I would guess that the ones sold through the importers official channels are still made by Brembo but that is just a guess.

There are other aftermarket 930/917 look alike brake kits on the market, don't know who currently makes them either.

Tanks for the replay Bill.

I think the new set i have seen looks the same as yours, but can't remember if the part no. was displayed in the casting, as on yours.

All the new ones I've been using have "Brembo" cast into them.

I recently purchased a set of new 930 brakes.
They are made by brembo and made in Italy. Part #s are on each side of the caliper. I think mine were made in 2009 according to the date stamps on them.

A friend of mine is removing his 930 brakes to drop down a class in PCA Racing (going stock Carerra), he will be selling the entire setup, including rotors and spare pads, complete. If interested let me know and I will pass on the info.

The brand new set I bought in November, 2010 from Sunset Porsche in Oregon had to be shipped in from Germany. The Porsche name is on the outward facing side of the caliper and the Brembo name is on the inward facing side. These are most certainly OEM parts made for Porsche by Brembo.

I would contact the parts department at Sunset Porsche to get a price quote. You will not get a better price....

Scott - what does a new set cost if you don't mind me asking? Last I knew they were about $2800 for all 4..

Gary,

I paid $520 for each caliper. I worked with Bob McCarthy.

Maybe a little off track but perhaps a topic worth some discussion... What is an OEM part?

Brembo certainly makes lots of brakes for Porsche - as OEM. After production ceases, Brembo (or any other supplier) can continue to make a design or something similar to what was supplied to the OEM for production. The point of discussion is... Are the parts supplied after production ceases by a production supplier still OEM parts or are they after market parts by the original OEM supplier.

There may not be any difference in the part or the difference may be subtle, and all in all it may not really matter, but a point of discussion none the less.

In this case, the calipers are still available and orderable from Porsche using a Porsche part number and they are still made by Brembo. They are the same part you could get back in 1980.....

There is a HUGE difference in thermal dissipation capacity. This ensures they work the same at the end of the day as well as on the first 2 laps,.....

In 09' I bought a set of new 930 calipers from Stoddards in Ohio. They were $2,300 for the set. I painted them red.

I believe there is a difference with Brembo calipers depending on what country they are manufactured in. In Australia you can buy some made in Thailand but the word on the net is that they are inferior to european made.
I don't know this for a fact but google it there are many posts.

Cheers
Bill
