Porsche Crest 911 3.2 (1984) squeaking noise when driving

Hi all,
I have a 1984 3.2 911, and have owned it for around 12 years. No real issues with the car over this time.

A few weeks ago, while driving along (note car had been stored for around 6 months, and had recently been driven - without any issues) - a strange squeaking noise appeared, when driving - a bit like the noise from a fan belt on a standard car.

Other symptoms that I noticed was the car was running quite roughly, as though the idle speed was lower than normal. THe noise comes and goes, but ocurrs mainly when changing gear. There is also faint smell of rubber coming through the heater.

Any ideas prior to taking to garage, much appreciated

Cheers,
John
