I would leave it there, turn it off and enjoy that flat 6 sound.

Seriously, I'm always attracted to 100% stock cars. I like to see a 30 years old 911 the way it got out of the factory, just my personal taste.

Nic

I have never understood this mentality. It's not like they are installed, and hardwired into the "on" position or something.

No worries on battery but mine is newer and gets a regular charge. It was a simple swap. I used Polk behind the original door speaker grills and Blaupunkt in the rear. No cutting of any kind. Saved the original speakers. Sounds very nice.

I replaced the OEM radio in my '87 with a CDR220 from a newer Porsche.

I did, however, keep the old radio so it can be reinstalled and return the car to 100% original.

I also replaced the speakers, but in the original positions. When I did this last year, I think I got what were probably among the last OEM-style speaker grilles available.

With my Fabspeed euro-style muffler & Dansk 1-in-2-out (84mm) muffler, at anything above 3500 rpm or so the radio & speakers are pretty much dead weight.

Replace it with bluetooth integration, but keep the original one in case you ever want to go back.

Two - get a MUCH newer Becker or Blaupunkt stereo with the retro look. iPod, plus CD, plus modern electronics. Still a stock(ish) look.
That seems like the best of both worlds!

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate your thoughts, opinions and solutions.

Mine came with an old AM/FM with an 8 track. I never listened to it anyway, enjoy the sounds of the car too much, and so when I redid the car, I deleted it. One day soon I am going to list the radio for sale on PP. Someone may want an old 8 track to show to their grandkids.

If my car still had it, I wouldn't change it. Any one have the correct radio for an '84?

Stock with an iPod

Hi...I have the stock radio with an amp mounted in the hood area. I pulled the radio input and plugged my iPhone right off the amp... (any 3mp player)

I bought a quality, long, ipod/iphone cable; ran it through the main wiring loom above the glove box; under the carpet right to my centre consul...Works well.
