oil hand pump.

Hi,
the part I hate the most about changing oil is to pour old oil from the bucket to empty botttles and take them to autozone or walmart. So, I am thinking of getting a cheap hand pump. Has anyone ever use this type of hand pump?

I have used one of those transfer siphons for gas. Pretty small ID on the hose, I think you will be quite a long time tranferring the 11 or so liters/quarts of oil.

I use a high-capacity drain pan and a 5 gallon jug intended for Kerosene. The pan has a spout that goes right into the kerosene jug for a fast, (generally) mess-free transfer. Then take the jug to the oil recycler. It's worked well for ~12 years

That's what I do.

I use a funnel to pour oil into 5 gallon buckets that I get from work. That pump will take forever. Try this...
Multi-Use Transfer Pump

I have tried that pump too, and it is only worth $8. I too use a 5 gal can. An old Kerosene can I have had for 30 years, back when I used Kerosene to heat my garage. Today, I save it for my son who has a marvelous furnace in his garage that burns old motor oil, (like some car service garages have). All his buddies save their oil for him, and I do too. The job I hate is changing gear oil in the transaxle. Not the draining, but the refill. Any of you have a solution for that?

Burn old oil in the garage? How about the smell?
For filling oil, I use similar hand pump Dustin posted above. It is ok for that purpose.

You would not believe, the 'furnace' has a chimney, and it does not smell. Makes a hell of a lot of heat though. His garage is a semi insulated metal pole barn.

remember how I need help pouring oil from my bucket to the quart bottle? I don't want to live with it. I have to come up with something.

Maybe I am going to build this into a metal lid.

For all my cars I use a stout garden pump spray bottle + tubing , takes a couple of refills but gives you time to go inside and make a cuppa etc. Painless.

I used a hand pump sourced from our host. The real key is to get a big pan of water really hot on the stove. Then take the pot to the garage and put your trans oil bottles in it, and walk away for 10 minutes. After that, the hand pumping takes very little time.

I got mine from Griot's Garage about 15 years ago. I use it for gear oil and refilling transmissions. I also used it to suck ATF out of a Ford F150 that a friend overfilled.

i save gallon windshield washer fluid bottles and pour from my pan directly into the bottles (using a funnel) -- only takes 2.5 bottles per oil change

Also the new 5+ quart plastic bottles that they are selling oil in at the flaps work well.

For motor oil these work great:
Drill Pump - Overton's
I use it to pump the oil out my V8 boat engine since there's no way to drain it from the oil pan. Just hook it up to a standard drill. For your application make sure its a variable speed drill so you can pump slowly enough that you don't overfill your bottle.
