Variorum transplant fit question

For those of you experienced putting a 3.6 variorum into a 911, did you have to cut a hole in the rear deck shelf for the top of the intake to fit? I need about 1-1/2" of height to get the engine high enough to bolt the carrier to the mounts.

I suppose that you could cut the tray, but I haven't seen anyone do that.

The usual solution is to use a spacer on the engine mount

Thanks Bill, the spacers are certainly less involved than cutting the deck.

Are the bolts holding the engine mount able to handle the extra stress placed on them when using a spacers like that? The engine mount now has extra leverage on the bolts at the shear point.

We did end up raising the deck about 1" to get my VRam intake to fit in the engine compartment.
TRE did a great with that part of the conversion.
You really don't notice anything was done back there.

I had my 3.2 rear engine carrier stiffened up at the stress points. I'm going to try to push up the rear shelf to gain some space and use a small spacer at the motor mounts. I don't see much additional stress on the motor mounts, but I need to make sure my bolts are long enough to fully engage the carrier threaded barrels.

Definitely reinforce the carrier, that is a known weak link, there are 100s of t/p's that have been running around for years w/o bolt issues, mine is 19yrs old this winter

Today I was able to push the rear shelf up about 3/4" with a 4X4 and a jack. I will only need 1/2" spacers at the carrier/ motor mount connection and I can live with that. Looking at the rear carrier, it seems like one could weld a plate onto the carrier and drill new holes to lower engine a little as well. Good to have options.
