QuozL's 79 SC (IROC Evocation) Build Thread
This is my 79SC and it is a work in progress. I've had it for just on 12 months now and we've already done a lot of work to it from how I bought it and it still has a long way to go until we're finished.
All mechanical work is done by Michael Harris at Promotive Engineering here in Brisbane and I can't thank him enough for his attention to detail as well as putting up with my OCD and crazy ideas / questions. http://www.users.on.net/~quozl/Image...629_154910.jpg http://www.users.on.net/~quozl/Image...154952_HDR.jpg The pedal box, and Momo Prototipo wheel with custom quick release mount from Promotive. https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...91518258_n.jpg Custom Tilton adjustable Pedal Box by Promotive and highlights of some of the interior trimming done by F&H here in Brisbane. https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...89625164_n.jpg The custom Tilton pedal box along with the updated Rennshift shifter and more highlights of the trimming. https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...57875251_n.jpg Rollbar reconfigured to match B pillar angle, powder coated & shift linkage panel cover powder coated. All the interior Rennline aluminium bits used to be brushed but I hate bling so had it all powder coated satin black. https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...96488682_n.jpg Momo Prototipo wheel with custom quick release mount from Promotive. https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...85299383_n.jpg New master cylinders mounted to powder coated blower motor cover. Next up is a brake upgrade by Promotive and a suspension upgrade and tweaking at Murray Coote. This will be followed by replacing the front and rear bumper bars with the IROC bars, an IROC whale tail for the track and a full respray and replacing the decals with Porsche script as per the IROC cars. Finally the engine and trans will get a refresh once they need it with some extra displacement to make things a bit more interesting. Sweet!
|
bee-you-tee ful!!
nice work |
Superb workmanship! Well done , great choices.
A full respray? Geez it looks pretty good to me! You'll be too frightened to drive it! |
Very nice. Look forward to the further IROC-ification of your car.
|
Really nice 911 you have there. Can't wait to see future developments on it!
|
Awesome job! Love the wheel/tire combo. And great looking IROC color choice.
With all those interior changes I'm suprised you still have the stock seats. That car begs for some bucket racing seats! |

Also with replacing the bumpers and adding a quick swap whale tail for track days, as well as replacing the mirrors with the black flag mirrors and re doing the script with the Porsche script it is just easier to respray the whole car. We also want to re anodise the side window trims and replace the rear window seat. Quote:
I've been tossing up replacing them with a set of Recaro Pole Positions in leather the same as what Chris Harris used in the Green ST replica he had Tuthill Porsche make for him. So far the only reason fro not pulling the trigger is comfort. I may get a set and see how they are and if I find them too uncomfortable just use them for track days. Thanks for the kind replies, will keep the thread updated as the project slowly progresses. Cheers Al |
This is very pretty car in the flesh!
|
Now that is one bad azz car. Color combo is great.

Great work Al. Twin of my car on the other side of the world!
|
Thanks Jeremy, inspiration reading your thread last year when I got mine and gave me a lot of ideas to borrow :-)
Cheers Al |
I saw this car online when it was for sale. It really caught my eye then but what you have done to it so far is very special.
From what I have seen this this is one of the most enviable SC's going around. It looks fantastic. |
Thanks, I knew the previous owner personally and was very surprised that he actually sold it after saying for years he would never let it go. I rang him just to ask if he knew where I could get something similar and he mentioned he was moving OS and did I want to buy it.
Still a long way to go but looking forward to all of the projects along the way. Cheers Al |
One of the nicest cars on Pelican. Awesome job with the Tilton pedals.

I love your car and i love these, may i know where you got them from? the rs door trim with the stitching |
Hi Tips,
I believe they are RS America door cards. The knobs are Rennline knobs I powder coated black with Rennline door lock pins and Rennline pull straps. I bought the car from the previous owner last October 2011 and the door cards were there already but he has them listed in the advert as RS America Door cards. A lot of the work I have done since getting the car but I can't take credit for the door cards. Cheers Al |
The door cards are RS America "Inspired" as the original RS cards don't have the angled stitching. To me this looks like a custom job to keep a bit of the original SC look but simplify the door with RS handle and latch release.
I like the stitching effect because it softens the look a bit. I might borrow that idea if I ever find myself with a lazy weekend and want to do some more tweaks. BTW - quozl - I like your exposed floor boards. I did a similar finish on mine. I did take a bit of work to get them right though, and having the floor mats re-cut to fit it in. |
We replaced all the carpet with new Porsche silverknit after Michael at Promotive had finished making the floor boards. The drivers side he made completely custom to mate with the Tilton pedal box as it is adjustable where the passenger side is a reworked rennline unit.
I'll try and get onto Craig the previous owner and get his input on the door cards but he hasn't been answering email lately so might take while. Cheers Al |
That is a Bada$$ looking car! Other than addressing the ladder/paint issue you mention, I see no point in changing anything else. That thing is HOT! I like the impact bumpers with the duck tail. Keeps some of its originality yet has enough changes to intrigue one into further investigating the uniqueness of it.
Don't get me wrong the Iroc bumpers are sweet but if you decided to stop now it will still be a hot car. |
Thank You quozl and D911SC, i too might go with that look :)

Beautiful car, congratulations!
Do you have any more details / pictures of the cable to hydraulic clutch conversion? Thanks in advance, Ben. |
Hi Ben, no other pictures that I have, I'll ask Michael my engineer if he can detail what he did and if he has any more photos as he took the majority of them for me during the upgrades.
Cheers Al |
That would be great! I'd love to see how he managed the conversion. If the pedal box is anything to go by then I'll bet it's well executed.
TIA, Ben. |

That's just perfect! Thanks a ton,
Ben. |
.
Subscribed to this thread for future updates! As mentioned previously, it looks amazing already! . |
Thanks, we're just getting started on collecting the parts for the new suspension and brake upgrades / replacement. Hoping most of it will be here so we can get started around the end of November on it.
Cheers Al |
This post will detail the next round of upgrades / work on the car that are almost complete. I will post pics once I get the car back, just waiting on the Zuffenhaus brakes and then we can finish this round of work.
The to do list, that by now is mostly done. Suspension
I'm sure there's a tonne I've missed so I'll add any detail as it comes to hand. Other odds n sods Radio Delete: Delete radio, door speakers and associated wiring. Make radio delete plate in black anodised with engraved PORSCHE script. Michael will be CNC machining this and anodising it in black. The pic below is from a user on Pelican who was nice enough to send me the dimensions and cnc drawings. The bottom plate was anodised black first then engraved but I will be going for all black that is engraved before anodising. http://www.users.on.net/~quozl/Image...1371299746.jpg Fabricate new door cards in leather with no speaker hole: Same full length ridged design as pictures on previous post. These are the finished item and were fabricated by Lee Brothers for me here in Brisbane. <iframe class="imgur-album" width="100%" height="550" frameborder="0" src="http://imgur.com/a/QOVqP/embed"></iframe>
Pic of some of the bead blasted suspension. http://i.imgur.com/JKs1zXV.jpg That's about it for now but there is bound to be more that comes up as the job progresses. I'll post pics as soon as I have them. Cheers Al |
So now we're just waiting on final pricing and availability of the Zuffenhaus RSR replicas as the supplier is in LeMans for the race week / month and it's hard to get hold of Twinspark (distributor were using to source them) when they're at the track.
They look bloody fantastic and reports are they stop just as well so hopefully it's worth the extra wait, although at least I still have my wife Marti's 997 beast to blat around in now and again while I wait for mine back, even if it is a water pumper. Pics of the brakes for clicks, these should look wicked peeking out from behind the 8" and 10" refurbished Fuchs reps. These are promo shots gathered from around the net but the same as what we'll be using on mine. http://www.ferdinandmagazine.com/wp-...RSR-Brakes.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1214948911.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1214948990.jpg As soon as I have any more details and images from Michael I'll post them up, hopefully not long now but I've learned just to let him do his thing and he'll let me know when it's ready to pick up :D I've saved for ages for all of this so I'm really hanging out to see the finished project. Cheers Al |
Some work to the fan while we wait for the brakes to arrive.
Wet blasting and cad plating the centre. http://i.imgur.com/EJCcm3t.jpg Hopefully not long for the Zuffenhaus brakes to arrive from Twinspark and we can get them installed and button up this suspension and brake upgrade and finally get it back on the road for a bit of fun. Cheers Al |
The Zuffenhaus brakes have arrived from Twinspark Racing in the UK but all I got was a pic of this lousy box
Michael my engineer is being a right bugger and not sending me any pics of them other than this tease picture and then saying "I might send a photo through when I open the box. Or then again I might not" LOL http://i.imgur.com/Vy6LlCa.jpg Anyway they are here and for those waiting for their spot in the queue to get into Michael's shop it shouldn't be long now. Oh wait!! we have an update, 8 hours later another pic has come through and I've been told I get a pic of a calliper, one a day he said LOL  http://i.imgur.com/y2wMpgL.jpg Cheers Al |
The fan looks awesome! How do you remove the "hub" from the fan for plating - do you just dill out those rivets? Will you be replacing with the same style of rivet or just a nut and countersunk bolt? Thanks!
|
Those brakes...
Seriously, best thread on the forum! :D |
Quote:
Edit: Ferrino, he said he drilled them out on the mill. Then he will put in new rivets to replace the old but you need a special rivet squeezer tool. The pic below is of the replacement rivet. http://i.imgur.com/vbnfj63.jpg Cheers Al |
This is getting painful, but here is the latest pic I just received. He really is stretching the friendship teasing me like this.
Waiting on the rotors which should be with the supplier in Oz next week. We decided to source them here to save a bit on shipping the rotors over from the UK as they are so heavy. http://i.imgur.com/RDEqzFK.jpg Have a great weekend everyone, off to Cars n Coffee in Brisbane tomorrow morning in the wife's water pumper 997, least I don't have to walk. http://www.users.on.net/~quozl/Image...ideo/rally.gif Cheers Al |
Sneak peak of some of the work around the rear of the car, brakes, shocks, a bit of tidy up of paint under the car and we took the fuel tank out and resprayed it as well. Apologies for the quality they were taken quickly on a phone by my engineer who is being very sneaky about what he sends me until I can see it in person.
Detailed pics of all the upgrades coming soon, hoping to pick it up this week sometime. http://i.imgur.com/faBJcUY.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/hYaiHD3.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/Ldjefh4.jpg?1 |
Looks awesome. Very impressive.
