Helper Spring Installation - Help!
Am replacing the helper spring this weekend. Got the clutch cable out, removed the spring (bit of a hassle!) and now want to set the thing up again. Problem is, when I put the clutch release lever and the clutch positioning lever back on the clutch release cross shaft, I'm about 1mm short of being able to install the circlip. The problem seems to be that the helper spring is touching one of the heat exchanger pipes. Any advice on how to go about this?
Thanks a lot Axel.

Do a search on "horseshoe" which is what I've called it and have posted many times on the matter.

Great feeling tackling a chest-hair-growing project like that ain't it?
There are 3 elements to the awfulness of a project 1) Immediate and repeated non-life threatening pain. 2) Risk of major injury to yourself or the car 3) Getting nowhere for long periods of time in tight quarters The horseshoe has 1 and 2. You can easily take some damage trying to get it on (to your hands), and also you're underneath the jacked car applying forces which has all kinds of fun risks. Now, trying to get the allen bolt that holds the clutch stop into the pedal cluster without removing the spring is just 3) Sit and toil, and toil for hours without getting anywhere. Also wiring tends to be 3). The good thing about 1-2 is if you get it right and take precautions, you can get it over and done with. 3) projects tend to never have easy solutions.

Richard,
symptoms were an incredibly stiff clutch - with a slightly damaged knee (incurred while going for a run last week) it was really hard to press the pedal all the way down. Plus the pedal felt sticky - I suspected the pedal cluster needed a rebuild as well but now it's all good. Cheers Axel.
