911sc full "Big red" conversion. What parts do i need?
I´m gona upgrade my brakes, and i need help to find a good solution.
I´ve found cheap complete front and rear 996 callipers and rotors, and i´m thinking this would be nice. Does this work? I have 996 turbo wheels and spacers mounted. |

You need to get the "instant G " conversion adaptors and a 23 mm master cylinder ... Steve Timmins at Instant G can provide you with all the necessary parts which will include modified front hubs as well !
Cheers ! Phil

Thank you
![]() I think i´ll just machine the adapters and the hubs my self, haven`t found any info on the hubs yet though. I found the adapters very cheap at Stomski Racing. 345$ for all four, so i might order them from there. Need to keep the $ down, as i have many plans for my car this winter. |

Are you doing this upgrade because you think you need the big brakes or because you want the big brakes?
I just don't get why people want to add all this weight to their cars..... Scott |

To Scott's point a bit further, even if you have a full-on track/race SC, the Big Reds are way overkill in my experience. I ran a set of 993 brakes with excellent Wilwood front rotors and 930 rear rotors on my '87 street car for a number of years and felt they too were a bit much.
That said, it's certainly your prerogative to put whatever you want on the car. Honestly, since you've put yourself in the 996 parts bin? I'd look at the regular 996 non-turbo calipers and rotors. The brake balance is much better with the slightly smaller front calipers and smaller rotors all around. The whopping-big front calipers and rotors make for a very front-biased brake setup for a typical SC. That high front bias takes away some of the gains you hope to make with the brake change. Most of the people I know of who use the 996TT setup have to fiddle with the bias quite a bit to get some more rear bite and take away from the front. Stomski makes nice stuff and is a real nice guy. Give Steven a call if you have any questions at all and he'll be glad to talk to you. Be sure you know what rotors you intend to use. For instance Steve Timmons' nice setup uses factory Porsche rotors on both ends. Stomski's adapters may not be of the same exact dimensions and you may have to cook up a custom rotor? Timmons setup is nice in that your rotor availability is quite good. But keep in mind that the "holey" rotors typically have a lower life span due to their drilled nature. Helps alot to get some ducting on them for cooling, which will increase their life and reduce/slow down the cracking from hole-to-hole The info on the hubs is here on the forums. Do some searching....... The mother of all IB brake upgrades? This is my kind of 996 brake upgrade!
