Kendall Motor Oil
While I have not personally used Kendal GT-1 motor oil, I have heard a lot of positive comments. It appears to be recently reformulated and is also losing its green color.

All i can say is that the green color is rather odd.

Not sure what the new formulation will do differently. Kendall GT1 has an almost legendary reputation in vintage racing circles as one of the best dino oil to use in older 911 engines that are pushed to the limit and might otherwise leak if synthetics were used. I have heard repeatedly that mechanics see less wear when engines using this oil are torn down. I've used it in my '72 911S since I've owned it.

$hit! I associate that green color with quality. Quaker State lost that color just as it stopped scoring high marks. I've loved Kendall since my two-wheeler days. Poop.

I was talking to an airplane mechanic the other day and he said I should use aeroshell in my engine. I guess it is good for high temps and doesn't break down as bad as regular oil... Not sure though. I know nothing about it.

Walt,
Kendall GT-1 is good stuff. While I've always been partial to Mobil 1 for high performance street cars, my dad and I run Kendall exclusively in the race cars. When you don't want to spring for a full synthetic, GT-1 is probably the best conventional oil you can get. BTW, Loop Road Auto Parts in Garner carries it if you're interested. I bought the last two boxes they had a couple of weeks ago, but I imagine they've got more in by now. -zuff |

Kendall Motor Oil
Posted this on the Early 911-S Registry message board on 12/21/00
BTW, tried Aeroshell in about 68' ... although a great lubercant, a chemist told us that the 'ashless dispersent' features of the airplane oils are not that complatable with the higher RPM requirements of an auto racing oil. Chuck oil survey -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For what's it's worth, I've been around racing since the late 60's and I've been running KENDALL GT-1 Racing Oil in all my cars since the early 70's ... used straight 40W until the 80's then switched to 20-50W. I live in Southern Cal. where the temp. is mostly warm to hot. I presently run this oil in a 98' S-10 pick up, a 67'Mallabu, and of course the 73' 911-S.... In the past I've ran this oil in an Alfa GTA C-Sedan, Formula Ford, Formula Atlantic, 55'Chevy drag car .... and the list (between me and my racing friends) goes on and on. Check it out yourself at the track ..... It always makes me smile when I walk the road racing, drag, and circle track pits and see the 'black cases of green-death' over in the corner even when there might be the name of another oil on the side of the car.......... Again, for what it's worth |

When I first bought my Carrera, Kendall was the only oil that would not leak out the flywheel seal. Go figure that! Drove it for 40K miles before the seal finally blew and then I replaced it.

![]() Stephan Willkinson may chime in here, but I think AeroShell is only available in single weights, like 50, not 20w-50.

I've been using GT-1 for around 25 years. A friend is the local Kendall distributor and that's how I got hooked. I used to run straight 50W GT-1 in my 69 SS-396!! Why? Because that's what all the Super Stock guys were running in their drag cars. Probably not the smartest thing I've ever done ..... -- Curt

Aeroshell makes a 15w-50 but I've never tried it. I was telling him about my heating up problems and he said I should change to areoshell.
