Cary's 3.0 RS Project

Leland and a couple others asked for pictures of my project.

Randy W's car inspired me to look at the RS. Then I saw the Carrera 3.0 RS. I figured I could go that route and not totally loose my Carrera 3.0. So here I am.

My car is not in the same league as Randy's. Based on yesterday's heated post.
A BA-low good. With lots of toys. But it will look cool.

I'll post the JPEG's on a reply.

Taking up most of my 3-car garage.

Plus:

Gear box rebuilt at R/S in Portland. C/R 2-3-4 and Quaiffe.
74-75 Flag mirrors painted to match the body.

Sounds like you're on track, Cary. R/S is a great shop for your mechanicals and suspension set-up. The wheels look great, and once all those glass parts are on and it's painted with decals - it will look extremely nice. Please keep us posted on your progress!

Yes---Nice project. I've run through a similar project in my head a few times. ONe day I'll take the plunge, but my SC is running and looking so sweet that there's no real incentive to do so anytime soon.

Sorry if you've posted this info before, but what model 911 did you start with, and what do you plan to do with your engine and transmission?

cheers

Daryl : When I opened the first box it took my breath away.
wife's not real excited. boxes are stacked in the corner of the Formal dining.
but I could see my 11 year old using them for a skateboard ramp.
Steve Weiner had them done for me. Same price range as Wheel Enhancement. Not cheap, but beautiful.

randy : I asked for "good as new - not rebuilt ". My rebuild parts list $$ is more than a complete Vertex or Motormiester gearbox.
(w/o 2-3-4 and the Quaiffe). It should be fun.

The plan is to run to Portland on a Wednesday before a Bremerton auto-cross. Install a complete new suspension ( t-bars/swaybars.. ) at R/S. Then come up and run. I'm thinking Mid-May. I want to go Bogus, Memorial Day WE.

Looks good. I guess us RS 30 Cloner's need to stick together. Here are two pictures of mine. I have some posted here on Pelican in my profile.

It's going to be a very nice car when done , keep at it! The 3 liter RS has always been my inspiration.

Jasper : I started with a 1977 Carrera 3.0.
But it has an 85 stock 3.2. Which has enough grunt.
And the gear box is a 915/61. But now updated and enhanced.

I'm doing this all to put a on my face. I will never recover anywhere near what I have into it. I called it the junkyard dog when I started. Mixture of parts and on its third paint color.

It is my therapy time. Turn on the radio put on my shop coat....and away I go. Life is good.

Keith..........looks great ( love the color )..........

Bill once again, thanks again for the help with the 930 fender trim and JPEG's. Question though, there shouldn't be any trouble putting the horns on the front of the tub under the bumper, should there ?
I'm leaving the oil cooler in the wheel well unless I have problems.

Here a pic of my wheel well, the horns are in the stock location, but were changed to the smaller pancake type in an early effort to clean up air flow through that area;

Looks great Cary!
I am soooo envious of the garage.... as a matter of fact, I won't have to be envious much longer... my roommates and I finally found a nice house to rent... 'Two-door-garaaaage"... mmmmmm

Anyway, in case anyone did not know, Cary has graciously volunteered to make the trip from Stevensville MT. to Idaho to help me remove the motor and install my oil lines and cooler.
9 hour trip... he might have the record for longest distance traveled to aid another pelicanhead.

I can't wait!

Cary, VERY COOL! Bet you can't wait to start shifting those "Gordon gears"...once, after switching to synthetic gear lube, I was telling Gordon how it shifted smoother than it did with SWEPCO. His respose: "Paul, your gearbox shifts smoothly because I went through it." Have to admit, I couldn't argue..
It's also WAY COOL of you to volunteer your labor & skill to help Leland like this. I'm hoping the job goes smoothly for you both.
Leland, better send your new snail mail address when you get it...and many congrats on getting a GARAGE. Man, you'll think you're in heaven. Did the Meucci get shipped yet? Hope so...

Paul, I could tell I was in good hands by the grin on Gordon's face.

Time to put it back together

Just got her back from the paint shop. Still needs to polished and buffed. But we decided to wait till after I have it back together.
In case I dork something up. We put on 3 coats of clear to allow for it.

FYI. I left the glass in to hold the masking. But, cut completely thru the trim piece trench. Leaves a good 1/4" space.
I'll shoot a JPEG to explain.

AMLS on at noon. And I still have to fix a bike tire. Dad Stuff.........
